The Parrish Art Museum and BOMB Magazine are hosting a reading at Marders, Bridgehampton, Saturday, September 24—featuring Candace Bushnell,  Jacqueline Weld Drake, Gregory Hedberg, and Bob Morris. Betsy Sussler, editor of BOMB magazine, will be the host.

The event is FREE and open to the public.  The location is the Parrish sponsored installation by Toni Ross titled Permanent Transience, part of their annual Parrish Road Show project, this year at Marders.

  • Candace Bushnell is international best-selling author of Killing Monica, Sex and the City, Summer and the City, The Carrie Diaries, One Fifth Avenue, Lipstick Jungle, Trading Up, and Four Blondes.
  • Jacqueline Weld Drake is the author of the official biography of Peggy Guggenheim, Peggy: The Wayward Guggenheim and a novel, Rara Avis.
  • Gregory Hedberg, PhD is the author of the new book Degas’ Little Dancer, Age Fourteen: The Earlier Version That Sparked The Birth Of Modern Art.
  • Bob Morris is the author of the memoirs Bobby Wonderful and Assisted Loving, which received honors from the American Library Association, Lambda Literary Awards and was a New York Times Editor's Choice. He also collaborated with actress Diahann Carroll on her award-winning memoir, The Legs Are the Last to Go and his picture books include Crispin the Terrible, Delia at the Delano and The Blue Jean.

BOMB Magazine has been publishing conversations between artists of all disciplines since 1981. BOMB's founders—New York City based artists and writers—created BOMB because they saw a disparity between the way artists talked about their work among themselves and the way critics described it. Today, BOMB is a multi-media publishing house that creates, disseminates, and preserves artist-generated content from interviews to artists’ essays to new literature. BOMB includes a quarterly print magazine, a daily online publication, and a digital archive of its previously published content from 1981 onward.

Toni Ross is intrigued by the intersection of diverse objects and materials, especially those that defy logic. These concepts are often represented by fine threads that bind powerful, weighty forms. In Permanent Transience, the artist creates a juxtaposition of materials through an installation of sculpted straw bales that intersect and envelop three massive on-site boulders.

The Parrish Road Show, an offsite creative summer series, takes place each year in August and features temporary projects by East End artists. Now in its third year, Parrish Road Show is designed to deeply connect creativity to everyday life by presenting exhibitions and programs at unexpected places—from public parks to historic sites—across the region.
