Water Mill, New York, October 4, 2024 — The Parrish Art Museum is proud to announce that Executive Director, Mónica Ramírez-Montagut, has been appointed to the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). Her appointment is part of a confirmation of new administration appointees by Governor Kathy Hochul, who emphasized the importance of having the “best and brightest public servants” to lead New York into a new era.
“New Yorkers deserve the best and brightest public servants to lead us into a new era for New York,” Governor Hochul said. “These appointees will help ensure that every corner of New York is being served by the best of the best. I could not be more confident in these dedicated public servants and am excited to see the progress they’ll make in our great state.”
“On behalf of Council and staff, we are delighted to welcome Mónica Ramírez-Montagut, a proven and committed arts leader to join the Council,” said Erika Mallin, Executive Director of NYSCA. “Time and time again, our artists and creative workers have made New York the global epicenter of arts and culture. Crucial to our prosperity and community strength, they need our support and dedication more than ever as they lead us to a better future.”
“On behalf of the Parrish Art Museum I am honored to serve the state of New York with this appointment,” said Executive Director, Monica Ramirez-Montagut. “I look forward to assisting Governor Kathy Hochul and NYSCA Executive Director Erika Mallin in furthering the vibrancy of our local arts and creative communities, so they continue to elevate the quality of life of all New Yorkers across the state.”
Dr. Mónica Ramírez-Montagut’s appointment to the Council is a testament to her dedication and leadership in the arts community, which was also recognized at the Federal level with a Presidential appointment to the board of the national museums (IMLS) in 2022. As a Council member, she will support NYSCA’s ongoing grantmaking and support to the field. The Council on the Arts will award $162 million in FY2025, serving organizations and artists across all 10 state regions, supported by Governor Hochul and the Legislature.
