Ranging from early abstractions to the artist’s most recent figurative works, the exhibition will explore the varying themes Joan Semmel has pursued through her paintings, in which she uses her own body to examine sexuality, aging, feminism, and the nature of human relationships. It will be Semmel’s first major presentation on Long Island’s East End, a place that has been influential to her since the early 1970s.
