Summer Jazz on the Terrace returns with five concerts in July, August, and September as part of the Museum’s third annual collaboration with The Jam Session. For the first concert, on Friday July 7, Hamptons Jazz Fest and the SmallsLive Foundation present Joe Farnsworth and Sarah Hanahan “Time to Swing.”

Joe Farnsworth, one of the most highly regarded jazz drummers on the scene today, is known for his blazing speed, precision, and musical and melodic playing. Originally from a musical family in South Hadley Massachusetts, Farnsworth studied with Alan Dawson and Arthur Taylor prior to attending and graduating from William Patterson College in New Jersey in 1994 where he began playing with saxophonist Eric Alexander and guitarist Peter Bernstein. Since relocating to New York City, Farnsworth has led weekend jazz combos at Smoke Jazz and Supper Club. During his career, he was performed in jazz festivals and world tours with Pharoah Sanders, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, George Coleman, and Johnny Griffin, among others.

Sarah Hanahan, an up-and-coming jazz saxophonist in New York, is currently pursuing a Master’s in Jazz performance at The Juilliard School. In 2015, Hanahan was awarded a full scholarship to study jazz performance at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz within the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford. She has participated in prestigious programs such as the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead program at the Kennedy Center, Jazz Aspen Snowmass with Christian McBride, and Ravinia Steans Jazz Institute. Hanahan is currently a Boston Sax Shop Brand Ambassador and plays BSS reeds along with other saxophone accessories; her main horn is the Yanagisawa A-991 alto saxophone.
