Now in its ninth year, Parrish Road Show is the Museum’s off-site project designed to encourage engagement and interaction between artists and the communities outside the Museum’s walls. Each year, selected artists work together with the Parrish and partner venues to create new work and to provide unusual opportunities for visitors to see and experience art in unexpected places, from public parks and highways to historical sites and community centers.
For her Parrish Road Show project, Charneco will present an exhibition of recent works that will function as an imaginary sustainability laboratory to examine how clusters of dwellings and other structures along shorelines such as the East End of Long Island can ecologically mine and share resources while interact symbiotically with other species. The work will be a continuation from her series Weaves and Touchmaps, utilizing books, works on paper, and photography that are evolving from her “Symbiosis Studies.”
Charneco’s work has been exhibited throughout the US at venues including the Katonah Museum, the Hunterdon Museum, The Islip Art Museum and Parrish Art Museum. Her work is featured in the recent book The Map as Art: Contemporary Artists Explore Cartography by Katherine Harmon 2009. She is currently on a year-long artist residency at the William Steeple Davis Trust to study, live and work in the artist’s former house in Orient, NY.
In addition to the off-site installations and to connect Parrish visitors to the projects in the community, the Museum will exhibit work by Charneco from May through October, alongside works from the Museum’s collection.
