Music | The Lighthouse Project: Tribute to Elvin Jones
Co-Presented with Hamptons Jazz Fest
September 2, 2022, 6 pm - 7:30 pm
REGISTER
Our Summer concerts in collaboration with Hamptons Jazz Fest conclude with The Lighthouse Project: Tribute to Elvin Jones, a widely celebrated musician and drummer, who jazz historian and critic Ted Goia calls “one of the most influential drummers in the history of jazz.”
The Lighthouse Project, on this occasion featuring Adam Nussbaum on drums, Gene Perla on bass, and Jerry Bergonzie and Nicole Glover on saxophone, brings together a rhythmic and chromatic approach to the “swing jazz” Jones famously redefined in collaboration with musician John Coltrane. The Lighthouse Project, originally formed with David Liebman alongside Perla, Nussbaum, and Bergonzie, resurrects the repertoire Perla and Liebman played with Jones in the early 1970s. This special tribute concert embodies the group’s commitment to rhythm, beat, and the spirit of the jazz Elvin Jones magnified.
