Jazz on the Terrace at the Parrish, organized by Richie Siegler, features live, outdoor performances by accomplished jazz artists with a backdrop of the East End sunset.

Grammy nominated Brazilian virtuoso bassist and composer Nilson Matta and his trio kick off the Parrish Art Museum’s outdoor series Jazz on the Terrace. The New York-based artist, who has been instrumental in the evolution and popularity of Brazilian jazz in the United States, is known for his work with Trio Da Paz, Don Pullen African Brazilian Connection, and Nilson Matta’s Brazilian Voyage.

Matta, the Artistic and Music Director of Samba Meets Jazz, has collaborated with Brazilian jazz musicians including Hermeto Pascoal, Joao Gilberto, Luis Bonfa, and Johnny Alf. He was invited by classical cello great Yo Yo Ma to participate in one of his many original projects, leading to a two-year international tour. Matta has taught at Cass Collective in New York and Litchfield Jazz Camps, conducted master classes worldwide, and performed around the globe.

Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to enjoy the live music from the terrace or the lawn, as chairs are not provided. Delicious food and specialty drinks are available for purchase. Table seating on the terrace is reserved for Golden Pear Cafe patrons.
