JAZZ ON THE TERRACE: Abelita Mateus

Jazz on the Terrace at the Parrish, organized by Richie Siegler, features live, outdoor performances by accomplished jazz artists with a backdrop of the East End sunset.
Grammy-nominated Brazilian singer/songwriter/pianist Abelita Mateus ignites Jazz on the Terrace at the Parrish Art Museum with her thrilling vocals, original songs, and virtuoso piano playing. Part of the new generation of great Brazilian musicians, the New York-based artist plays at international venues such as the Blue Note in New York, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, Yoshi’s Jazz Club in San Francisco, Ronnie Scott’s in London, and Bird’s Basement in Melbourne, Australia.
Mateus’s debut album Vivenda, released in 2017, reached the 24th position on the Jazz Week charts. In 2018 her second album Mixed Feelings was nominated for Grammy Awards in three categories: Best Latin Jazz Album, Best Engineered Album—Non-Classical, and Best Instrumental Composition for Paizinho (Little Daddy). She is currently the pianist for the Dizzy Gillespie Afro-Cuban Experience, directed by Dizzy Gillespie alumni John Lee.
Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets to enjoy the live music from the terrace or the lawn, as chairs are not provided. Delicious food and specialty drinks are available for purchase. Table seating on the terrace is reserved for Golden Pear Cafe patrons.
