DESCRIPTION:We’re extremely excited to be able to host our thirty-sixth annual Landscape Pleasures program this year! This annual event for garden lovers will feature engaging online talks by renowned landscape architects and experts who share their passion and projects in the U.S. and abroad. Sunday features several one-of-a kind\, self-guided garden tours of private Shelter Island properties. Individual galleries based on specific themes feature paintings\, works on paper\, photographs\, and sculpture\, opening with the diverse image making of artists Richard Prince\, Dorothea Rockburne\, and David Salle\, among others. Circles\, Squares\, and Squiggles explores abstract gestures through works by Jennifer Bartlett\, Willem de Kooning\, and Perle Fine; Portraits by Chuck Close\, Till Freiwald and others reveal their subjects in larger than life paintings; and American Landscapes highlights work from the Parrish’s renowned holdings. Two galleries bring to light bodies of work by single artists\, from the tragic-comic world view of Saul Steinberg (a major gift from the Saul Steinberg Foundation that comprises works on paper\, wallpaper and fabric)\, to the joyful imagery of Tom Slaughter.

DESCRIPTION:Held on Mondays\, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm \n  \nDevelop your drawing skills in weekly classes led by teaching artist Linda Capello. Participants will practice drawing male and female models through gesture sketches and longer duration observation. All skill levels are welcome. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology\, she worked in the NYC fashion industry for over 20 years. She states\, “All I have ever wanted to do was draw\, and all I have ever wanted to draw were people. I am a classically trained anatomist\, but instead of the rigid\, mechanical representation of muscle\, bone and flesh\, I look for the subtlety of the line; the strength and sensuality of the thick\, thin and lost line. The curve of the neck and arch of the spine speak volumes.”

SUMMARY:Painting en Plein Air with Barbara Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Series of three Fridays\, September 11\, 18 and 25\, 10 am to 12:30 pm \nExplore painting en plein air in a variety of settings. Locations include regional gardens and the Parrish landscape.  The Museum’s grounds have recently been activated by Art in the Meadow—a new installation of outdoor  sculpture installed in the North and South meadows and the first class will include exploration of the galleries and grounds. Classes on September 18 and 25 will be held offsite; directions will be provided.  Open to adults and youth age 15+. All skill levels are welcome. Participants will arrange for their own materials; a supply list will be provided. \n$385 | $265 Members \nSOLD OUT \nAdvance registration is required. No sales at the door. The event takes place outdoors on the Museum’s terrace\, grounds other offsite locations. Capacity is limited based on safe social distancing. Face coverings must be worn by all participants.

SUMMARY:Music on the Terrace: Hopefully Forgiven
DESCRIPTION:The program has sold out. Please see the Parrish calendar for other upcoming Friday Night Programs.\nHopefully Forgiven – voted ‘Best Band in the Hamptons’ by Dan’s Papers – is a high energy\, harmony-soaked cocktail of American music. Singer/songwriters Telly Karoussos and ‘Alabama Brad’ Penuel deliver big harmonies and authentic songwriting that transcend the ‘Americana’ genre and has attracted a devoted multi-generational fan base. \nThe brotherhood that is Hopefully Forgiven began shortly after a chance meeting through an internet post when Brad offered his Brooklyn railroad apartment to Telly in exchange for watching his dog. After sizing each other up and realizing they shared a passion for music and surfing\, Brad said “I think this will work. My house is yours– you can even play my guitar if you want….just don’t touch my boots.” Telly didn’t and they\, along with Ben Goodale (Bass) and Fred Trumpy (Drums)\, soon began working up their songs\, along with classics by the Stones\, the Band\, Van Morrison\, and the course for Hopefully Forgiven was set. \nHopefully Forgiven has recorded with Rick Davies (Supertramp)\, Chuck Burgi (Billy Joel)\, and currently has a song on SiriusXM Coffeehouse Radio. They will be recording an album this year (‘20) with Downtown Music Group (NYC) and touring extensively at venues and private events nationally. \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is required.\nAll tickets are sold pre-event and online only. No sales at the door. All sales are final\, non-transferable\, and non-refundable.\nThe event takes place outdoors on the Museum’s terrace\, with possible use of the Event Lawn in good weather. Please bring your own chairs\, no Museum seating is available. \nYou must wear a mask to access the event. The event is limited capacity with designated seating areas based on safe social distancing. Face coverings must be worn when in aisles or moving through spaces.\nNo outside food or drink is permitted. SUMMARY:What We See\, How We See
DESCRIPTION:What We See\, How We See is a seven-part exhibition that contextualizes work by a variety of artists through the lens of how they see and interpret the world around them. Individual galleries based on specific themes feature paintings\, works on paper\, photographs\, and sculpture\, opening with the diverse image making of artists Richard Prince\, Dorothea Rockburne\, and David Salle\, among others. Circles\, Squares\, and Squiggles explores abstract gestures through works by Jennifer Bartlett\, Willem de Kooning\, and Perle Fine; Portraits by Chuck Close\, Till Freiwald and others reveal their subjects in larger than life paintings; and American Landscapes highlights work from the Parrish’s renowned holdings. Two galleries bring to light bodies of work by single artists\, from the tragic-comic world view of Saul Steinberg (a major gift from the Saul Steinberg Foundation that comprises works on paper\, wallpaper and fabric)\, to the joyful imagery of Tom Slaughter.

SUMMARY:Field of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:On August 20\, 2020\, the Parrish opened Field of Dreams\, our inaugural sculpture exhibition created to extend the galleries outdoors and activate the Museum’s meadows with work that engages and responds to the Parrish’s architecture and landscape. The exhibition series is part of the Museum’s new Art in the Meadow initiative that enlivens the grounds with performances\, projections\, and works of art. \nField of Dreams outdoor sculpture exhibition is open and free to the public daily\, from 11 am–5 pm. Visitors are asked to observe social distancing practices and are required to wear masks on Museum property.
