Beginning with work from the summer of 1950\, the exhibition and accompanying catalogue focus on the artist’s output from the late 1950s through 1971. Abstract Climates illuminates Frankenthaler’s exploration of the relationship between landscape and abstraction\, and offers new insights into the major role her work played in the development of Abstract Expressionism in America. Co-curated by Lise Motherwell\, a stepdaughter of the artist\, and Helen Frankenthaler Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Smith\, the exhibition was on view at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in the summer of 2018\, featuring some 30 paintings and works on paper with additional memorabilia from the artist’s life. SUMMARY:SALON SERIES: Konstantin Soukhovetski
DESCRIPTION:Salon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s concert program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting\, presents pianist Konstantin Soukhovetski. \nKonstantin Soukhovetski is an independent artist. In 2019\, he became a United States citizen. He was born in Moscow\, Russia and came to the United States after being admitted to The Julliard School. His family remains in Moscow. He completed the master’s of music program at The Juilliard School\, where he also received his bachelor’s of music. \nAt The Juilliard School\, Konstantin won the Arthur Rubinstein Award as an outstanding pianist in the class of 2003 as well as the Gina Bachauer Prize. Konstantin has continuously studied piano with Jerome Lowenthal since 1999. He was in the performance program at Julliard School\, where he won the William Petschek Debut Recital Award at Alice Tully Hall. \nAdditionally\, Konstantin has debuted at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall\, recorded for NPR and WQRZ\, performed with the Cleveland Orchestra\, won second prize at the Naumburg International Piano Competition\, third prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition\, grand prize at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati\, first prize at the Hilton Head International Piano Competition\, and second prize at the 2004 UNISA International Piano Competition in Pretoria\, South Africa. \nThe winner of numerous prizes at international piano competitions\, he now maintains an active international schedule of concerts\, including a recent eight-performance tour of South Africa. He made his chamber music debut at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC with the Biava Quartet in 2010\, gave his debut recital at Wigmore Hall in London in 2011\, and has recently performed with the Houston Symphony and at the Manchester Music Festival Orchestra. \n  \nSalon Series is generously supported by Louis K. and Susan P. SUMMARY:OFF-SITE: PARRISH ROAD SHOW OPENING  Laurie Lambrecht: Limn to Limb
DESCRIPTION:  \nOpening Reception | Free and Open to the Public \nThe Madoo Conservancy\n618 Sagg Main Street\, Sagaponack\, NY 11962 \n  \nNow in its eighth year\, the Parrish Road Show is the Museum’s annual creative off-site cultural engagement program. Every year\, East End artists are invited to create new work for temporary projects and engage residents in their process. In an effort to deeply connect art and creativity to everyday life\, the exhibitions take place at public sites across the region—cultural and historical organizations\, public parks and highways\, and community centers—and the artists offer public talks and artmaking workshops for children and adults. \nFor Parrish Road Show 2019\, Laurie Lambrecht will present Limn to Limb\, a site-specific installation at The Madoo Conservancy\, where she will respond to Madoo’s trees\, shrubs\, and structural details that are typically painted in bright colors with interventions that include photography\, printmaking\, weaving\, and knitting. She will create large-scale fiber prints of tree bark\, hand-knitted covers for stones\, rocks\, and trees\, and weavings made of cut-up fabric prints from photographs of the gardens. \nThe exploration and observation of the nuances of bark has long been the impetus for Lambrecht’s creation of prints and fiber pieces. As a continuation of a project Lambrecht began last fall on Hardanger Fjord’s edge in Norway\, she will be covering stones and rocks with colorful knitted wool to exalt the small and sometimes overlooked and prompts the viewer to rediscover these humble garden elements. The soft covers challenge the perception of the very qualities of a stone\, thus enhancing the visual and tactic experiences that contribute to memory of place. \n  \nWorks by both 2019 Road Show artists\, Candace Hill Montgomery and Laurie Lambrecht\, will be on view at the Parrish Art Museum through November 3\, 2019. \n  \nVIEW EXHIBITION \nParrish Road Show is organized by Corinne Erni\, Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects \nParrish Road Show 2019 is made possible\, in part\, by the generous support of The Dorothy Lichtenstein ArtsReach Fund\, established by Agnes Gund; Deborah Buck; Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder; Jane Wesman and Donald Savelson; Leslie Rose Close; and Joni Sternbach.\n

DESCRIPTION:November 11\, 2018 to October 6\, 2019 \nEach year\, the Museum creates a new exhibition that contextualizes work and amplifies inherent themes by important artists in the Parrish collection of more than 3\,000 works. Participants will practice drawing male and female models through gesture sketches and longer duration observation. All skill levels are welcome. Participants are asked to provide their own dry media supplies. \nDrop-in rates\n$30 | $25 Member per session \n  \nLinda Capello is a master of figure drawing. A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology\, she worked in the NYC fashion industry for over 20 years. She states\, “All I have ever wanted to do was draw\, and all I have ever wanted to draw were people. I am a classically trained anatomist\, but instead of the rigid\, mechanical representation of muscle\, bone and flesh\, I look for the subtlety of the line; the strength and sensuality of the thick\, thin and lost line. The curve of the neck and arch of the spine speak volumes.”

DESCRIPTION:Members at the Sponsor Level and above are invited to join us for a private tour of Hirschl & Adler’s exhibition Force Field\, Louisa Chase’s first solo exhibition with H&A and the artist’s first solo show in New York City in over twenty years. \nLouisa Chase (1951-2016) was a questing spirit\, writing in 1979 that “painting for me is a constant search to hold a feeling tangible.” From her Symbolist iconography of the late-1970s through the gestural abstractions of the mid-1980s and beyond\, that search never left her. DESCRIPTION:  \nSalon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s concert program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting\, presents clarinetist Maksim Shtrykov and pianist Misuzu Tanaka. \nComprised of two sensationally gifted and acclaimed virtuosi – Maksim Shtrykov and Misuzu Tanaka – have been hailed as “a new generation of exquisitely talented performers who elevate our understanding of the world’s music.” (Shelter Island Reporter)\, and can be heard throughout the U.S.\, garnering an impressive record of instant re-engagements. \nClarinet and piano duos are still rare gems on the modern concert stage despite the immense repertoire. With its innovative programming\, master classes\, and recitals\, the Duo makes it their mission to transform the superb instrumental combination from a rare occurrence to a welcomed guest on concert series across the globe. \nThe Duo’s debut album “Epilogues” will focus on the last works of three leading composers – Johannes Brahms\, Camille Saint-Saëns and Francis Poulenc. Each of these composers chose the clarinet as the last medium of their genius\, referring to its rich sound and soulful expression in the late stage of their lives and entrusting in it a lifetime of wisdom and experience. Though the story behind the creation of each composition differs\, all of them hold a deep philosophical meaning as the pinnacles of the composers’ mastery. \nMaksim and Misuzu first met in December 2012 and\, as avid chamber music collaborators\, instantly felt a unique artistic connection resulting in an inspiring and creative friendship. Co-curated by Lise Motherwell\, a stepdaughter of the artist\, and Helen Frankenthaler Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Smith\, the exhibition was on view at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in the summer of 2018\, featuring some 30 paintings and works on paper with additional memorabilia from the artist’s life. At the Parrish\, six large-scale paintings not previously included will also be on view.
