SUMMARY:Salon Series | Pegasus: the Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS \n$35 Members | $45 Adults | $40 Seniors | $20 Students | $10 Children \nPegasus: the Orchestra returns to the Parrish for an intimate program focused on Rachmaninoff’s and Schubert’s Vocal and Chamber Masterpieces. 2007 Tchaikovsky International Competition Gold Medalist\, Sergey Antonov opens the concert with Rachmaninoff’s “Vocalise” arranged for cello and piano\, followed by rising star\, soprano Elisa Sunshine performing two art songs of Rachmaninoff. The first half closes with Rachmaninoff’s powerful Trio Elegiaque No.1. \nThe second half opens with soprano Elisa Sunshine performing five selections from Schubert’s lieder arranged by Karén Hakobyan for Piano and String Quartet finishing the set with Schubert’s famous lieder “Die Forelle” (“The Trout”). Schubert used “The Trout” lieder as the basis of set of variations of the 4th movement of his Piano Quintet\, which hence earned its nickname “The Trout”. Pegasus’s String Principals explore this fascinating connection by closing the program with artistic director Karén Hakobyan at the piano with Schubert’s monumental Piano Quintet in A Major\, D. 667 “The Trout”. \nPerformers:\nElisa Sunshine\, soprano/guest artist\nSergey Antonov\, cello/guest artist\nKarén Hakobyan\, piano\nEiko Kano\, violin/concertmaster\nAndrew Gonzalez\, viola/principal\nRobert Catinella\, contrabass/acting principal \nPegasus: The Orchestra\nKarén Hakobyan\, artistic director and principal conductor \nSalon Series is generously supported by Louis K. and Susan P. Meisel\, Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder\, The Jeanette and H Peter Kriendler Charitable Trust\, and Yamaha Artist Services\, Inc. Friday Nights are made possible\, in part by The Corcoran Group.

SUMMARY:Member Preview: Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nJoin us to celebrate the opening of Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales at the Parrish. Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales features four large-scale sculptures in red\, blue\, yellow\, and green in the Museum’s South Meadow. Advanced registration is required. \nNot a Parrish member? Join today →\n  \nCarmen Herrera (American\, b. Cuba\, 1915–2022) is known for her hard-edge paintings\, prints\, and sculptures—often representing geometric shapes with both symmetrical and asymmetrical abstractions. The four works installed in the Meadow\, Angulo Azul (2017)\, Angulo Amarillo (2017)\, Estructura Verde (1966/2018)\, and Gemini (Red) (1971/2019) are part of Herrera’s series Estructuras\, which she initially envisioned as sketches and paintings in the 1960s. In 1971\, Herrera fabricated four Estructuras in wood—three wall-based works and one free-standing. However\, it was only in the final fifteen years of the artist’s life that she was able to realize her vision for these monumental sculptures on a larger scale. The Estructuras series at the Parrish provides an opportunity to view the acrylic and aluminum works the way Herrera imagined them—each piece fabricated to her exact color and shape standards.. \nCarmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales is organized by Corinne Erni\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator of Art and Education\, and Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs\, with additional support by Kaitlin Halloran\, Assistant Curator and Publications Coordinator. \nExhibition Support\nThe Carmen Herrera: Estructuras Monumentales exhibition is made possible\, in part\, thanks to the generous support of Tony Bechara; The Fuhrman Family Foundation; Agnes Gund; Lisson Gallery; MOVADO; Estrellita and Daniel Brodsky; Jeff Lipsitz\, Allison Koffman\, and Family; and a donor who wishes to remain Anonymous. \nThe Parrish Art Museum’s programs are made possible\, in part\, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and by the property taxpayers from the Southampton School District and the Tuckahoe Common School District. Public funding provided by Suffolk County.
