SUMMARY:Exclusive Tour: Folly Tree Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER  JOIN TODAY\nJoin us for a private tour of the Folly Tree Arboretum in East Hampton\, NY\, a project created by artist Tucker Marder\, who is currently featured in the Parrish’s exhibition Regeneration: Long Island’s History of Ecological Art and Care. \nFounded in 2013 by multidisciplinary artist Tucker Marder (American\, b. 1989\, Southampton\, NY)\, Folly Tree is home to a variety of rare and unusual tree specimens. In addition to working with the growth habits of trees to create unexpected sculptural forms—anthropomorphic weeping conifers and geometric topiaries—Marder also nurtures cuttings of remarkable trees gathered from around the world. The Folly Tree collection includes clones and descendants of a sycamore grown from a seed that was taken to the moon in 1971\, a tree that survived the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima\, and a chestnut that grew outside of Anne Frank’s attic window in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam. Underscoring our deeply interconnected relationship with the natural world\, the arboretum presents trees as rich archives of history. Over the years\, the arboretum has grown to include over 250 trees\, as well as education initiatives and an artist residency program that promotes environmental storytelling. \nThis event is for Members of the Parrish Art Museum. Advanced registration is required and limited space is available. The event’s exact address will be provided upon registration. \nFor more information\, to join or upgrade your Membership\, please contact us at membership@parrishart.org or 631.283.2118 x167. \n  \nAbout Tucker Marder\nLiving between Springs\, NY\, and Pittsburgh\, PA\, Marder’s work spans performance\, puppetry\, sculpture\, film\, and horticulture. Often produced collaboratively\, his projects have included an underwater puppet show in a pool\, a theatrical adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s Galápagos\, and an interspecies performance with a flock of over 200 ducks for his 2015 Parrish Road Show exhibition. Whatever format it takes\, his work harnesses absurdity and humor as catalysts for ecological responsibility and action. His aim is to encourage what he describes as “an exuberant environmental ethic\, countering pessimistic prevailing trends towards ecological hopelessness.”

SUMMARY:Hamptons JazzFest Kickoff Party | Bill O'Connell Latin Jazz Express
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nJoin us as we kick off Summer Jazz on the Terrace in collaboration with Hamptons JazzFest! This free celebration follows Community Day: Savor the Summer to welcome the summer season of jazz on the Mildred C. Brinn Terrace and Event Lawn. \nGuests are strongly encouraged to bring outdoor chairs and blankets as no Museum seating is provided. Outdoor coolers and outside food are prohibited. Food and beverages are available to purchase at the Parrish Café. \nFree and open to all. Advance registration is strongly recommended. Limited spaces will be available at the door. \nNote: Photography may be taken during the program for promotional purposes by the Parrish Art Museum or Hamptons JazzFest. In the event of inclement weather or any changes to the program\, ticket holders will be notified as soon as possible. \n  \nAbout the Artist\nPianist and composer Bill O’Connell brings his dynamic Latin Jazz Express to Parrish Art Museum for the official kickoff of Hamptons JazzFest\, joined by Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Randy Brecker. Blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms with straight-ahead jazz\, the ensemble delivers an electrifying evening of rich improvisation\, bold arrangements\, and world-class musicianship. Known for his masterful compositions and decades-long influence on the Latin jazz scene\, O’Connell leads a powerhouse band that seamlessly bridges tradition and innovation. Featuring Bill O’Connell on piano\, Randy Brecker on trumpet\, Conrad Herwig on trombone\, Lincoln Goines on bass\, and Robby Ameen on drums\, this opening night promises a vibrant celebration of rhythm\, culture\, and contemporary jazz. \n  \nIn collaboration with Hamptons JazzFest\, the Parrish Art Museum presents three thrilling concerts this summer (July through September) on the Mildred C. Brinn Terrace and Event Lawn\, bringing world-class jazz performances and artists to the East End. \nThank you to Crozier Fine Arts for their support of the Hamptons JazzFest Kickoff Party. \nThe Parrish Art Museum’s programs are made possible\, in part\, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and by the property taxpayers from the Southampton Union Free School District and the Tuckahoe Common School District.
