SUMMARY:Exclusive Tour: Folly Tree Arboretum
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER  JOIN TODAY\nJoin us for a private tour of the Folly Tree Arboretum in East Hampton\, NY\, a project created by artist Tucker Marder\, who is currently featured in the Parrish’s exhibition Regeneration: Long Island’s History of Ecological Art and Care. \nFounded in 2013 by multidisciplinary artist Tucker Marder (American\, b. 1989\, Southampton\, NY)\, Folly Tree is home to a variety of rare and unusual tree specimens. In addition to working with the growth habits of trees to create unexpected sculptural forms—anthropomorphic weeping conifers and geometric topiaries—Marder also nurtures cuttings of remarkable trees gathered from around the world. The Folly Tree collection includes clones and descendants of a sycamore grown from a seed that was taken to the moon in 1971\, a tree that survived the 1945 bombing of Hiroshima\, and a chestnut that grew outside of Anne Frank’s attic window in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam. Underscoring our deeply interconnected relationship with the natural world\, the arboretum presents trees as rich archives of history. Over the years\, the arboretum has grown to include over 250 trees\, as well as education initiatives and an artist residency program that promotes environmental storytelling. \nThis event is for Members of the Parrish Art Museum. Advanced registration is required and limited space is available. The event’s exact address will be provided upon registration. \nFor more information\, to join or upgrade your Membership\, please contact us at membership@parrishart.org or 631.283.2118 x167. \n  \nAbout Tucker Marder\nLiving between Springs\, NY\, and Pittsburgh\, PA\, Marder’s work spans performance\, puppetry\, sculpture\, film\, and horticulture. Often produced collaboratively\, his projects have included an underwater puppet show in a pool\, a theatrical adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut’s Galápagos\, and an interspecies performance with a flock of over 200 ducks for his 2015 Parrish Road Show exhibition. Whatever format it takes\, his work harnesses absurdity and humor as catalysts for ecological responsibility and action. His aim is to encourage what he describes as “an exuberant environmental ethic\, countering pessimistic prevailing trends towards ecological hopelessness.”
