SUMMARY:Talk | Skin in the Game
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\nIn the Lichtenstein Theater \nConversation 1/3 of a lunchtime talk series by Alicia Longwell on Jasper Johns \nThursday\, June 23: Mr. Johns Regrets | Learn more→ \nThursday\, June 30: Stars & Stripes | Learn more→ \n  \nIn a series of three informal lunchtime talks in conjunction with the exhibition\, An Art of Changes: Jasper Johns Prints\, 1960–2018\, Alicia G. Longwell\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator will discuss Jasper Johns and three common themes explored by the artist throughout his career. \nDuring the 1960s\, Johns experimented with unusual tools for making marks on his canvases and drawings. They included his own body\, which he used to make imprints—a more direct way of adding his “touch” to an artwork than traditional means such as brush or pencil. The unusual self-portrait Skin with O’Hara Poem is a literal impression of the artist\, rather than a painted likeness. \nGuests are invited to preorder lunch through the Café at the Parrish and enjoy it in the Theater. Special Offer: Receive a free regular coffee with any Café purchase or receive a free bag of chips with the purchase of a salad or sandwich. Outside food is not permitted in the Museum. \nOrder 0nline → \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is recommended. Limited tickets will be available at the door.\nAll sales are final\, non-transferable\, and non-refundable. \nAttendees at events in the Museum’s theater\, café\, or studio (ages 5 and older) are required to provide proof of full vaccination in order to maintain a mask-optional environment. Visitors to the Museum galleries (ages 2 and older) are required to wear a medical-grade mask at all times\, regardless of vaccination status. \n More information surrounding our COVID-19 protocol →

SUMMARY:Talk | Jasper Johns: Mr. Johns Regrets
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\nIn the Lichtenstein Theater \nConversation 2/3 of a lunchtime talk series by Alicia Longwell on Jasper Johns \nIn a series of three informal lunchtime talks in conjunction with the exhibition\, An Art of Changes: Jasper Johns Prints\, 1960–2018\, Alicia G. Longwell\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator will discuss Jasper Johns and three common themes explored by the artist throughout his career. \nThis talk focuses on Johns’s penchant for repetition of specific imagery and his well-known reticence for art world hubbub. In the Regrets series\, the image is doubled and abstracted to the extent that the resulting shapes—rather than the figure—become the focus. In the upper right\, Johns “signed” each work with an enlarged image of the rubber stamp he uses to decline invitations: “Regrets/Jasper Johns.” \nGuests are invited to preorder lunch through the Café at the Parrish and enjoy it in the Theater. Special Offer: Receive a free regular coffee with any Café purchase or receive a free bag of chips with the purchase of a salad or sandwich. Outside food is not permitted in the Museum. \nOrder 0nline → \nUPCOMING\nThursday\, June 30: Stars & Stripes | Learn more→ \n  \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is recommended. SUMMARY:Talk | Jasper Johns: Stars & Stripes
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n\nIn the Lichtenstein Theater \nConversation 3/3 of a lunchtime talk series by Alicia Longwell on Jasper Johns \nIn a series of three informal lunchtime talks in conjunction with the exhibition\, An Art of Changes: Jasper Johns Prints\, 1960–2018\, Alicia G. Longwell\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator will discuss Jasper Johns and three common themes explored by the artist throughout his career. \nSince 1955\, Johns has made more than 100 images featuring the American flag in myriad forms—changing its orientation and size; fragmenting\, mirroring\, or doubling the image; and producing it with a variety of colors and paper types. This talk will explore Johns’s and other artist’s fascination with the American flag and the ways in which they have incorporated this motif into their work. \nOrder 0nline → \n  \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is recommended.
