DESCRIPTION:  \nIn collaboration with Brookhaven National Lab \nAfter the success of PubSci at the Parrish in 2018\, scientists from Brookhaven National Lab return for PubSci\, a science and art conversation series that takes place in a pub-style setting. Panelists will engage the audience in an open discussion on intersections of science and art that shape our world. \nIn this program\, a scientist\, artists\, and composers will discuss how nanoscience data generated at Brookhaven Lab’s Center for Functional Nanomaterials (CFN) and National Synchrotron Light Source II can be represented in novel ways using different forms of art. In particular\, they will explain how these novel representations can help scientists understand how 3-D nanostructures are organized. DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin artists Amy Sillman\, Cameron Martin\, and Miranda Lichtenstein in a conversation about Helen Frankenthaler’s work. \nTo view additional programs for Abstract Climates: Helen Frankenthaler in Provincetown click HERE \n  \nThough painting\, drawing\, animation and writing\, Amy Sillman (born in 1955 in Detroit\, MI) has woven together an art practice that is engaged in both material matters and discursive thinking. Her artwork has been widely shown and collected at private and public institutions in the U.S. and Europe\, including MoMA\, The Met\, The Whitney\, LA MoCA\, Portikus in Frankfurt\, Lenbachhaus and the Brandhorst Museum in Munich\, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm\, and The Tate Modern\, London. She has been the recipient of numerous awards\, including a Guggenheim in 2001\, and residencies at The American Academy in Berlin\, The American Academy in Rome\, and The Radcliffe Institute. A traveling mid-career survey show one lump or two\, curated by Helen Molesworth\, opened at the ICA Boston in 2013\, and was accompanied by a major monographic catalogue. More recently\, a monograph was published in 2019 by Lund Humphries/London\, with a long text by the writer and curator Valerie Smith. Active as an educator\, Sillman held a position as Professor at the Staedelschule in Frankfurt from 2014-2019. She is based in New York City and is represented by Gladstone Gallery. \nMiranda Lichtenstein’s work has been exhibited at institutions including the Guggenheim Museum\, New York\, NY; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, Washington D.C.; Renaissance Society\, Chicago\, IL; Musee Marmottan Monet\, Paris\, France; MASS MoCA\, North Adams\, MA; and the New Museum of Contemporary Art\, New York\, NY.  Solo exhibitions of her work have been held at venues such as the UCLA Hammer Museum\, Los Angeles; Whitney Museum of American Art; and most recently at the Museum of Contemporary Art\, Tucson\, AZ. Her work is represented in numerous public collections including Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum\, New York\, NY; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, Washington\, DC; Baltimore Museum of Art\, Baltimore\, MD; Henry Art Gallery\, Seattle\, WA; and the Neuberger Museum\, Purchase\, NY.  She is Associate Professor of Photography at Mason Gross School of the Arts\, Rutgers University and lives in Brooklyn\, NY. \nIn addition to solo shows at galleries in the United States\, Japan and Europe\, Cameron Martin has been the subject of one-person exhibitions at the Saint Louis Art Museum; the Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa\, Oklahoma; and the University Art Museum at SUNY Albany. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions\, including the 2004 Whitney Biennial. His work is included in many museum collections\, and he has received a Pollock Krasner\, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship\, among other awards. In November he will have a two-person exhibition with Gyorgy Kepes at Sikkema Jenkins and Co.\, New York. Martin is co-chair of the painting department in the MFA program at Bard College. He received his BA in Art/Semiotics from Brown University in 1994\, and graduated from the Whitney Independent Study Program in 1996. SUMMARY:PLATFORM: OptoSonic Tea @ the Parrish
DESCRIPTION:  \nEnjoy an evening-length performance featuring some of the world’s most innovative video and sound artists who will interact with the architecture and landscape of the Parrish. Curated specifically for the Museum’s Platform series by OptoSonic Tea founders Ursula Scherrer and Katherine Liberovskaya\, the durational and site-specific group improvisation will feature visual artists performing live in different areas inside and outside of the Museum building\, while live musicians and sound artists perform coordinated and spatialized works by composer and Diapason Gallery founder/director Michael J. Schumacher. Presented in collaboration with New York City-based Harvestworks. \nDrinks and snacks are available for purchase from the Golden Pear Café throughout the evening.
