DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n$25 Members | $35 Adults (Nonmembers) | $20 for Students\, Children \nSalon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s classical music program featuring world-class artists\, continues its spring schedule with a solo performance by Chinese pianist Wynona Wang. \nWang begins the concert with the Dante Sonata by Hungarian composer Franz Liszt\, inspired Victor Hugo‘s poem Après un lecture du Dante (After a reading of Dante). The first theme evokes the wailing of souls in Hell; the second is a chorale representing the joy of souls in Heaven. Following are two Preludes by Aristea Mellos: the rhythmically dynamic Me cansé de vivir me caso (I’m tired of living so I’m getting married) and the lush\, dreamlike Go to sleep my beloved… (Djoko’s Lullaby). The first act ends with Ludwig Van Beethoven’s Sonata No. 23\, “Appassionata\,” considered one of his greatest\, most technically challenging\, and tempestuous piano sonatas. Wang will end her program with a rarely performed sonata by Sergei Rachmaninoff\, the Sonata No. 1 in D minor\, Op. 28. \nBorn in Beijing\, Wang is an active performer in China\, Europe\, and the United States. Recent North American performances include the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra\, the Meadows Symphony Orchestra of SMU Dallas\, and major festivals including PianoTexas\, Morningside Music Bridge in Calgary\, Canada\, the International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York City\, and the Chautauqua Institution. In 2012\, Le won a coveted fellowship position with Ensemble Connect (formerly Ensemble ACJW\, the Academy of Carnegie Hall and the Juilliard School and the Weill Institute of Music) and has performed regularly at Carnegie Hall\, the Juilliard School\, and other venues around New York City. \nAmong the many selections in her Salon Series program\, Le’s dynamic pairings of American and non-American musical works will include two works that combine classical and pop music genres. French composer Francis Poulenc’s florid\, lyrical Improvisation no. 15: Hommage à Édith Piaf—the quintessential French chanteuse—is coupled with a piano arrangement of George Gershwin’s distinctly American Rhapsody in Blue that combines elements of classical and jazz\, established with the iconic opening siren-like clarinet riff and continuing with sections that evoke the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple in the 1920s. Held in the Lichtenstein Theater\, the live performance will feature works by  Cesar Franck\, Johannes Brahms\, Sergei Rachmaninoff\, and Claude Debussy\, among others. Mazurok will play on the 1745 Carcassi violin\, generously loaned for this performance by Lucas Wronski of Lucas Violins. \nAbout Niccolò Ronchi\nItalian pianist Niccolò Ronchi enthusiastically received by both critics and audiences for his virtuosity\, expressiveness\, and communicative interpretations\, has gained international recognition. Ronchi graduated with honors and distinction under the guidance of Prof. Isabella Lo Porto\,  with further study with leading international teachers including Franco Scala\, Head of the International Piano Academy of Imola; Vincenzo Balzani\, Milan; Leonid Margarius; and Riccardo Risaliti. Ronchi has won over 50 first prizes at international competitions. He received his diploma from the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome under the guidance of renowned concert pianist Meastro Benedetto Lupo. \nRonchi\, whose repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the late 20th century\, has a particular affinity for works from the Romantic period late 20th century Russian composers. He has recorded with Radio Classica\, Radio Vaticana\, Telepace\, Teletutto\, Radio Vera\, Radio Brescia Sette\, and several others. As both a soloist and with orchestras\, Ronchi’s performances are highly appreciated for their force and charisma. \n  \nAbout Anastasiia Mazurok\nDescribed as “spellbinding” by Northwest Music Scene\, Anastasiia Mazurok is an award-winning violinist\, D’Addario artist and ambassador\, GEWA official artist\, TEDx speaker\, and the Juilliard School alumnus (Rockefeller Foundation’s fellow). A native of Saint Petersburg\, Russia\, Mazurok has won top prizes at The Petersburgian Spring International Competition of the Arts\, and Georgy Sviridov International competition.  She made her concerto debut with orchestra at the age of 13 and has performed extensively throughout Russia\, the U.S.\, France\, and Austria. As a recipient of the Emerging Artists Foundation award\, Mazurok performed Mendelssohn’s E Minor Violin Concerto at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. \nMazurok graduated with honors from the Rimsky Korsakov Musical College and received her bachelor’s degree as a Garrigues award winner from Boyer College of Music\, studying under Dr. Eduard Schmieder. She received her master’s degree as the Rockefeller foundation and Irene Diamond fellow at The Juilliard School with Masao Kawasaki\, Sylvia Rosenberg\, Rohan de Silva. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nThe Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival returns to the Parrish Art Museum with a special outdoor concert that transcends cultures and times. The program alternates works for winds and strings\, beginning with Umoja for Wind Quintet by flutist/contemporary composer Valerie Coleman. The Swahili word for “unity\,” Umoja was originally a simple family call-and-response call for unity sung at Kwanzaa. Coleman arranged the tune for her wind quintet Imani Winds\, with the melody carried by French horn. BCMF’s string players take the stage for Trio for Strings in G minor (1894) by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Wind players return for the Humoreske for Wind Quintet (1939) by Viennese composer Alexander Zemlinsky. \nIn Jean Françaix’s String Trio in C (1933)\, three of the four brief movements are bright and crisp\, with a strong kinetic connection to the dance music the composer was writing at the time. BCMF wind players come together with oboe in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quartet for Oboe\, Violin\, Viola\, and Cello\, K. 370/368b (1781)\, written for the composer’s friend—virtuoso oboist Friedrich Ramm. \nThe concert concludes with contemporary composer Derek Bermel’s Ghanaian dance-inspire\, Wanderings for Wind Quintet (1994) which alludes to the Muslim and Jewish quarters that exist side by without boundaries in Jerusalem’s Old City. Similarly\, in Bermel’s work\, musical threads of continuity appear and suddenly vanish\, remaining elusive. The outdoor concert on the Terrace will showcase Debriano’s modern and Latin jazz compositions\, notably from his recently released Flash of the Spirit project that celebrates global music influenced by Middle Eastern styles\, Brazilian folk\, and Cuban songo rhythms. The concert features trombonist Xito Lovell\, tenor saxophonist Craig Handy\, flutist Andrea Brachfeld\, drummer Tommy Campbell\, and pianist Bill O’Connell. \nBorn in Panama\, Debriano has been composing and performing contrabass and ensemble music professionally since 1982 throughout North America\, Europe\, and the Far East. His prodigious talent as an improviser\, arranger\, and composer has made him a much sought-after collaborator with musicians including Freddie Hubbard\, Sam Rivers\, Archie Shepp\, Pharaoh Sanders\, Oliver Lake\, and others. He has led or played on nearly a dozen recordings\, including four albums with Shepp’s quartet. \nAfter studying for two years at the New England Conservatory under Tiny Martin and Miroslav Vitous\, and earning an M.A. at Wesleyan University\, Debriano performed with Archie Shepp’s quartet for four years. As part of the second annual Hamptons Jazz Fest\, Schwarz-Bart brings exciting lyrical jazz styles to the Parrish.  \nBorn in Guadalupe\, Jacques Schwarz-Bart pursued a path of music and mysticism\, playing alongside luminaries such as Roy Hargrove\, Danilo Perez\, Ari Hoenig\, Meshell n’Degeocello and D’angelo or Chucho Valdes. He outright created two surging new styles: Gwoka Jazz\, and Voodoo Jazz\, reuniting jazz music with its Afro-Caribbean and spiritual origins. With impressionistic writing\, powerful tone\, and wide-ranging language – both lyrical and angular – these jazz styles have fueled a growing presence on the world stage. Leading the Gwoka Jazz Project\, Schwarz-Bart recorded two albums for Universal\, Soné Ka La and Abyss\, which built his career as an internationally acclaimed jazz musician and band leader.  \nIn 2010\, he released Rise Above\, which revives his long-lasting collaboration with singer – and spouse – Stephanie McKay and blends NY urban mood and Caribbean feelings. Schwarz-Bart went on to work on projects and recordings including The Art of Dreaming\, Jazz Racine Haiti\, Creole Spirits\, Voodoo Jazz Trio and Hazzan. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nSalon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s concert program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting. \nIn a unique performance at the Museum\, harpist Parker Ramsay will bring new energy to the harp repertoire\, expanding the capability of the instrument in unexpected new ways. Integrating contemporary music and historical performance\, his work defies easy categorization. Equally at home on modern and period harps\, Ramsay is dedicated to invigorating the existing canon while delving into new and underperformed works. \nA native of Nashville\, Tennessee\, Ramsay began harp studies with his mother at a young age before moving to the UK at age 16. He was awarded the undergraduate organ scholarship at King’s College\, Cambridge where he served under the direction of Stephen Cleobury. His tenure with the Choir of King’s College included performing for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in 2012\, as well as six international tours and four recordings. Parker has performed at the Concertgebouw in\, the Royal Albert Hall\, the Musée d’Orsay\, the National Center for the Performing Arts\, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts\, Verizon Hall\, and Alice Tully Hall. \nAfter receiving his bachelor’s degree in history at Cambridge\, Ramsay pursued graduate studies in historical keyboards at Oberlin Conservatory. In 2014\, he was awarded First Prize at the Sweelinck International Organ Competition. He then studied modern harp at The Juilliard School\, under the tutelage of Nancy Allen. He is a regular contributor for VAN Magazine\, and his writing has appeared in Cleveland Classical\, The New York Times and The Washington Post. \nParker is co-director of A Golden Wire\, a period-instrument ensemble devoted to French and English music from the seventeenth century. She is the concertmaster and senior artistic advisor of Pegasus: The Orchestra. The concert is being offered free of charge thanks to the generosity of The Jam Session\, in collaboration with a major donor and life-long jazz enthusiast who celebrate this true American art form and the return of live music. You may also watch the livestream of the concert on our YouTube channel. \n \nMorris Goldberg was born in Cape Town\, South Africa. He came to New York to study at the Manhattan School of Music\, where he received both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. \nGoldberg has worked and toured with Miriam Makeba\, Hugh Masekela\, and Harry Belafonte\, among many others. He recorded for Paul Simon on the Graceland album\, playing soprano sax and the pennywhistle solo on “You Can Call Me Al”. He also served as the woodwind specialist on The Rosie O’Donnell Show for the six years. Every morning\, the show would open with a shot of his Yamaha alto saxophone’s bell. In addition\, he played for many artists including Tony Bennett and Phil Collins. \nGoldberg formed his own group called Ojoyo\, which specializes in South African flavored jazz – Safrojazz. The group has recorded three albums of original music\, and played at many Jazz festivals and clubs throughout the United States with Hugh Masekela. \nHe teaches at the Ross School in East Hampton and performs throughout New York City and Long Island. \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is required.\nAll tickets are sold pre-event and online only. Whether through his brilliant improvised trombone solos\, rich baritone vocals\, original compositions\, or his dedicated teaching\, his passion for music and unique talent shines through. Weaver’s latest project is a big band album titled “Truth\,” released in March 2020\, and was showcased at Birdland in an April 2020 concert. \nWeaver has performed at Dizzy’s\, Carnegie Hall\, Kennedy Center\, and Bass Performance Hall\, to name a few\, and has performed in Amsterdam and Dublin. He has shared the stage with Ben Folds\, Alfredo “Chocolate” Armenteros\, Larry Harlow\, Bucky Pizzarelli\, Michael Dease\, Ulysses Owens Jr.\, Adam Neely\, Luis Bonilla\, and Manhattan Transfer. He was featured as a guest artist with the New London Big Band\, and served as artist in residence at Millersville University. He appeared on TV for “An American Big Band Christmas\,” broadcast nationally. \nWeaver is a sought after composer and arranger and his music has been performed all over the world. His brilliant composition “Frost” debuted at Carnegie Hall in 2018\, as did his composition “The Hudson\,” in 2016. He composed the original score for the off-Broadway play\, “For What It’s Worth.” Weaver’s transcription and analysis of Michael Dease’s album “Coming Home” is available through Warwick Music Publications. \nOriginally from Tennessee\, Weaver was the winner of the Texas State Jazz Trombone Competition and was one of three finalists in the International Trombone Association’s Carl Fontana Jazz Competition two years in a row. He won the American Trombone Workshop’s National Jazz Competition in 2017. Among the many performance prizes awarded to her with these victories\, she will make her New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall during the 2019-20 season on the CAG Winners series. \nAn active performer in China\, Europe and the United States\, Wang recently earned her Performer’s Diploma under the tutelage of the eminent pianist Alessio Bax at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. While at SMU. she appeared in multiple concerto performances as well as numerous recitals and chamber music concerts\, including collaborations with cellist Andres Diaz and with the Escher String Quartet. Her upcoming itinerary features recitals in New York and Florida\, and concerto engagements in California and Texas.
