SUMMARY:Encounters with Artists: Insights into the Artistic Process
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n  \nJoin us as ten established artist members of the Parrish Art Museum share aspects of their artistic process and inspirations through conversation and visual representation. Each artist will showcase some of their recent works and describe or demonstrate the way they engage in their art. This event will be an aesthetically immersive experience for participants introducing them to a variety of art forms including painting\, sculpting\, digital media\, hand-built ceramic\, multi-media collages\, and 3-D printing. \nParticipating artists include Bill Albertini\, Roz Dimon\,  Robin Gianis\, Brianna Hernández\, Mary Jaffe\, Setha Low\, Scott McIntire\, Anne Seelbach\, Janice Stanton\, and Tmima.  \nBill Albertini\, Mattituck\nAlbertini creates sculptures using various technologies including 3D printing\, laser cutting and robot milling. In addition to plastics he incorporates bronze-infused stainless steel and wood into his works. \nRoz Dimon\, Shelter Island\nDimon is a digital artist who creates multi-layered interactive paintings in a new media process created by the artist. Her works seek to connect with others in an intimate\, meaningful way that goes beyond the physical. \nRobin Gianis\, East Hampton\nGianis creates hand-built ceramics finished with a variety of surface techniques inspired by the beauty of the natural world. \nBrianna Hernández\, Shinnecock Nation\, Southampton\nHernández creates sculptures gilded with silver\, gold\, and copper leaf that focus on the experience of providing end-of-life care\, grieving processes\, and morning rituals.  \nMary Jaffe\, Bridgehampton\nJaffe creates functional and sculptural ceramics inspired by both vast landscapes and small intrinsic beauties of the natural world. \nSetha Low\, East Hampton\nLow’s artwork takes a critical view of social\, political\, and cultural issues and employs both abstract and figurative representations to evoke different emotional responses. \nScott McIntire\, Greenport\nMcIntire’s paintings are influenced by environmental issues. His series of Energy Circles explore the unseen sources of energy that surround us such as radio waves\, cellular transmissions\, sounds and smells. \nAnne Seelbach\, North Haven\nSeelbach is a painter and print artist whose work is influenced by the environment including the tidal waters and shoreline of eastern Long Island. \nJanice Stanton\, Bridgehampton\nStanton’s collages are layered\, abstract pieces which blur the lines between photography\, painting\, and collage. Handmade paper\, text and markings with the artist’s hand are key elements. \nTmima\, Bellmore\nTmima’s sculptural artwork forces the contemporary eye and mind to deal with personal experiences. SUMMARY:PechaKucha Night Hamptons Vol. 35
DESCRIPTION:TICKETS  LIVESTREAM\n\nJoin high school students and art educators featured in the 2022 Student Exhibition from schools across the East End as they present their work and passion during a special PechaKucha Night. \nAs the official site for the Hamptons\, the Parrish joins over 700 cities globally in hosting PechaKucha Nights\, named for the sound of “chit-chat” in Japanese. The format is simple: each invited presenter gets 20 images x 20 seconds per image to talk about living creatively. This is a great opportunity to establish new relationships\, learn about local resources\, and hear from the many creatives who call Long Island home. \nParticipants: Shelter Island School teacher Catherine Brigham and student Margaret Schultheis; Southampton High School teacher Pamela Collins and student Talus Pinto; Bridgehampton School teacher Robin Gianis and students Luna Paucar and Pearl Ann V. Cherry Brown; and East Hampton High School teacher Margaret Zubarriain with student Kym Bermeo. \n  \nABOUT THE PRESENTERS \nSHELTER ISLAND UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT \nCatherine Brigham teaches art to 15 grade levels\, ranging from 3–19 years old. Brigham earned an undergraduate degree in Art and Design in Education from Pratt Institute\, and a Master’s in Teaching Students with Disabilities from Long Island University. She lives on Shelter Island full time. \nMargaret Schultheis\, in the 11th grade\, is currently participating in the drama club and art club. Her plans for the future include tattooing and illustration. \nSOUTHHAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL \nPamela Collins has an MFA in Painting/ Drawing from Brooklyn College and both a BFA in Painting/Drawing and a BS in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz. At Southampton\, she teaches Studio in Art\, Mural Painting and Set Design\, Drawing and Painting\, College Level Drawing\, Advanced Painting\, and Portfolio Development. Collins also teaches classes at the Parrish Art Museum. \nTalus Pinto\, who works in photography\, is a senior at SHS and plans to attend the School of Visual Arts in New York City upon graduation. Pinto has been part of the SHS’s art club for 4 years and is grateful for his participation in the club. His hope for those seeing his work is\, “I hope you embrace my vision of the world through the fine arts of photography.” \nBRIDGEHAMPTON SCHOOL \nOriginally from Cambridge\, MA\, art teacher Robin Gianis found her way to the East End after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College. After an early career in retail management\, she transitioned into art education. She has taught K-12 at the Bridgehampton School and has served on the Parrish Art Museum Education Committee. A ceramic artist\, Gianis will be featured in the event Encounters with Artists: Insights into the Artistic Process at the Parrish Art Museum. \nLuna Paucar is a junior at the Bridgehampton High School whose interests include design and ceramics. This year\, she contributed to the design portions of Student Council\, National Honor Society\, Culture Club\, and the Robotics team. Paucar’s favorite subjects are Marimba and art\, and she shares these talents with friends and family from Honduras and Ecuador. By combining her culture\, Marimba\, and art\, Paucar’s goal is to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. \nOne of Pearl Ann V. Cherry Brown’s favorite classes is studio art\, and she especially loves to make props out of cardboard. She spends much of her time drawing\, and her hobbies include crafting and listening to music. \nEAST HAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL \nMargaret Zubarriain graduated from Parsons/New School of Design with a BFA in Illustration. She worked as an intern prop builder for The Jim Henson Company\, a set painter for Women’s Expressive Theater in New York\, and created murals in the Bronx\, Manhattan\, and most recently a large commission at Gurney’s in Montauk. A mother of two\, Zubarriain is in her sixth year teaching Drawing\, Painting\, and Sculpture at East Hampton High School. \nSenior Kym Bermeo\, a Latinx queer artist who lives in Springs and participates in the art club at East Hampton High School\, is member of the Teen Arts Council at Guild Hall\, and works at The Golden Eagle Art supply store. Bermeo’s goal through her work is to shine light on the hardships of her community and their identity. SUMMARY:Studio Tour | Ma's House
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nJoin us for a private tour of Ma’s House & BIPOC Art Studio\, a communal art space based on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation. The event will feature a conversation with Jeremy Dennis\, lead artist\, who will share the history of Ma’s House and its residency program for Black\, Indigenous\, and People of Color. In addition to Dennis’ work\, you will see “Point of Reference”\, the solo exhibition of new works by December resident artist\, Jacoub Reyes. \nJeremy Dennis. Photo by Lori Hawkins. \nJeremy Dennis is a contemporary fine art photographer and a tribal member of the Shinnecock Indian Nation. In his work\, he explores indigenous identity\, culture\, and assimilation\, and in 2018\, he participated in the Parrish Road Show with an exhibition at the Arts Center at Duck Creek\, East Hampton. He was one of 10 recipients of a 2016 Dreamstarter Grant from the national non-profit organization Running Strong for American Indian Youth. He was awarded $10\,000 to pursue his project\, On This Site\, which uses photography and an interactive online map to showcase culturally significant Native American sites on Long Island\, a topic of special meaning for Dennis\, who was raised on the Shinnecock Nation Reservation. \nJacoub Reyes is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Florida. He finds and makes materials and tools as part of an experimental aspect of his process. Reyes salvages and transforms found wood to reflect how marginalized and oppressed communities have been cast aside throughout history. With these\, he carves detailed large-scale allegorical woodcuts based on the acculturation of the Caribbean and the world at large. SUMMARY:Abstract Climates: Helen Frankenthaler in Provincetown
DESCRIPTION:August 4–October 27\, 2019 \nAbstract Climates: Helen Frankenthaler in Provincetown highlights key examples of Helen Frankenthaler’s work produced during summers spent in that coastal town and underscores their impact on her development as a painter. Beginning with work from the summer of 1950\, the exhibition and accompanying catalogue focus on the artist’s output from the late 1950s through 1971. Abstract Climates illuminates Frankenthaler’s exploration of the relationship between landscape and abstraction\, and offers new insights into the major role her work played in the development of Abstract Expressionism in America. Co-curated by Lise Motherwell\, a stepdaughter of the artist\, and Helen Frankenthaler Foundation Executive Director Elizabeth Smith\, the exhibition was on view at the Provincetown Art Association and Museum in the summer of 2018\, featuring some 30 paintings and works on paper with additional memorabilia from the artist’s life. At the Parrish\, six large-scale paintings not previously included will also be on view.
