Tours will begin at 5 PM and 6 PM in the Museum lobby. \nThe Parrish Art Museum has invited Hank Willis Thomas\, a conceptual artist working with themes related to identity\, commodity\, media\, and popular culture\, and For Freedoms–the artist coalition he co-founded to model and increase creative civic engagement\, discourse\, and direct action—to consider the Museum as a site for works that encourage new ways to experience art\, architecture\, landscape\, and community. On view in the Parrish galleries\, outdoors on the Museum grounds\, and as digital billboards on the Shinnecock Monuments on Sunrise Highway\, Another Justice: US is Them includes nearly 30 works by 12 contemporary artists—many created specifically for the exhibition—in mixed media\, sculpture\, site-specific installation\, wall painting\, and photography. \nArtists include Zoë Buckman\, Pamela Council\, Jeremy Dennis\, Jeffrey Gibson\, Eric Gottesman\, Christine Sun Kim\, Muna Malik\, Joiri Minaya\, Koyoltzintli Miranda-Rivadeneira\, Kambui Olujimi\, Hank Willis Thomas\, and Marie Watt. \nAnother Justice: US is Them is organized by Corinne Erni\, Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects\, with support from Brianna Hernández\, Curatorial Fellow\, and is co-curated by Hank Willis Thomas and Carly Fischer. \nBrianna L. Hernández is a Chicana artist\, curator\, educator\, and death doula guided by socially engaged practices. In developing as an artist Brianna credits her late mother\, Sylvia D. Hernández\, as her most significant mentor. In the studio\, Brianna focuses on end-of-life care\, grieving processes\, and mourning rituals based on lived experience\, cultural research\, and collaborations with peers. As a curator\, Brianna works with artists to make socially-charged topics publicly accessible in order to create opportunities for education and empathy. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nSummer concerts on the Terrace continue with a live jazz performance by Jacques Schwarz-Bart: Jewish Chants and Afro-Caribbean Jazz Quintet\, co-presented with Hamptons Jazz Fest. As part of the second annual Hamptons Jazz Fest\, Schwarz-Bart brings exciting lyrical jazz styles to the Parrish.  \nBorn in Guadalupe\, Jacques Schwarz-Bart pursued a path of music and mysticism\, playing alongside luminaries such as Roy Hargrove\, Danilo Perez\, Ari Hoenig\, Meshell n’Degeocello and D’angelo or Chucho Valdes. He outright created two surging new styles: Gwoka Jazz\, and Voodoo Jazz\, reuniting jazz music with its Afro-Caribbean and spiritual origins. With impressionistic writing\, powerful tone\, and wide-ranging language – both lyrical and angular – these jazz styles have fueled a growing presence on the world stage. Leading the Gwoka Jazz Project\, Schwarz-Bart recorded two albums for Universal\, Soné Ka La and Abyss\, which built his career as an internationally acclaimed jazz musician and band leader.  \nIn 2010\, he released Rise Above\, which revives his long-lasting collaboration with singer – and spouse – Stephanie McKay and blends NY urban mood and Caribbean feelings. Schwarz-Bart went on to work on projects and recordings including The Art of Dreaming\, Jazz Racine Haiti\, Creole Spirits\, Voodoo Jazz Trio and Hazzan. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nSummer Jazz on the Parrish Terrace kicks off with Elegant People Fusion Explosion as part of the second annual Hamptons Jazz Fest! In partnership with The Jam Session\, this live jazz concert features Eric Schugren\, saxophone\, Randolph Hudson\, bass\, Fred Gilde\, keyboard\, and Claes Brondal\, drums.  \nElegant People Fusion Explosion combines jazz harmonies and improvisation with funky grooves and Latin and rock rhythms\, creating what became known as fusion music\, drawing influence from Weather Report\, Pat Metheny\, Miles Davis\, John Abercrombie among others. The group was founded in 2020 to celebrate the fusion music of the 1970s and 1980s\, while also bringing this timeless music to a new audience. Elegant People have embraced this style of music\, giving it new life and exposure\, while remaining true to old school sounds and effects. Their repertoire is a mix of fusion hits and soundscapes\, giving the audience a brief but carefully curated journey back to the heydays of fusion.  \nNo outside food or drink is permitted. Food\, drink\, and picnic baskets are available to purchase in the Café at the Parrish. Preorder options are available here. This event takes place on the Museum’s Terrace\, rain or shine. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n$15 | Adults \n$5 | Members and Students with ID \nDecoy\n1972\, 18 minutes\nDirector: Michael Blackwood\nShown in conjunction with the current exhibition An Art of Changes: Jasper Johns Prints\, 1960 – 2018\, this short documentary explores how Jasper Johns created Decoy—a series of paintings and prints\, one of which is featured in this exhibition—and how it is rooted inside the notions of reproduction\, transformation\, and memory. \nBelieving that an image gains new meaning each time it is presented\, Johns boldly confronts his own past work\, most notably Ale Cans (1964)\, and uses Decoy as a method of metamorphosis. The repetition of certain motifs allows Johns to confront the change an image goes through when approached from a different angle or placed in a new artistic context. As he notes in the film\, “each time a motif is used and reused additional memories accrue\, new layers of meaning\, and the image itself begins to acquire its own history.” It is through Johns’s reimagining that the items he features in his work take on new life and grow from object to art\, thus redirecting society’s interpretation. \nDiscussion to follow with Alicia G. Longwell\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator\, Art and Education and Lorena Salcedo-Watson\, Artist\, Master Printer\, Lecturer and Undergraduate Director\, Stony Brook University in the Lichtenstein Theater. \nLorena Salcedo-Watson | Artist\, Master Printer\, Lecturer and Undergraduate Director\, Stony Brook\nUniversity \nLorena Salcedo-Watson is an artist and master printmaker whose work consists of large-scale drawings and prints focused on the relationships between the structures and essential qualities of life forms. Based on a fascination with human anatomy\, botany\, and entomology\, her imagery transforms and re-interprets aspects of nature\, filtering through personal experience\, observation\, and imagination. \nAs an educator\, Salcedo-Watson taught intaglio printmaking at Cooper Union for seven years and was on the faculty of St. Joseph’s College. Salcedo-Watson worked at Universal Limited Art Editions (ULAE) for fourteen years as a master printer and collaborator. Co-presented with Hamptons Doc Fest and in conjunction with  Landscape Pleasures\, the documentary features the influential gardener and plantsman Frank Cabot shortly before his passing at the age of 86. Cabot recounts his personal quest for perfection at Les Quatre Vents\, his 20-acre English style garden and summer estate\, which he opened to a film crew for the first time in 2009. \nNestled amid the rolling hills of the Charlevoix County in Quebec\, Les Quatre Vents has become one of the world’s foremost private gardens. Created over the course of 75 years and three generations\, this horticultural masterpiece of the 21st century is an enchanted place of beauty and surprise. Through remarks by Cabot and his family\, and with the participation of gardening experts and writers\, the film looks back at this remarkable man’s personal story and the artistic philosophy that gave birth to one of the greatest gardens in the world. \n  \nAbout the Director \nSébastien Chabot (b. 1976\, Sainte-Florence\, Quebec) is a Canadian writer\, cinematographer\, and producer\, who published his debut novel Ma mère est une marmotte in 2004. He was awarded the Prix Jovette-Bernier in 2006 for his sequel\, L’Angoisse des poulets sans plumes\, and was recently shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award for French-language fiction for the novel Noir métal. Discussing The Gardener in a feature article in Point of View Magazine\, Chabot said that working with Frank Cabot was about cultivating a film that would be as finely crafted as the garden it depicts. “Doing a personal movie about one’s personal garden might be the best way to reveal someone.” Chabot received his education at the Université du Québec à Rimouski and the Université du Québec à Montréal. He is a professor of literature at the Cégep de Rimouski. \nAbout Alicia Whitaker \nAlicia Whitaker is an executive leadership coach and consultant who has worked to support her gardening habit for decades. A home gardener and active participant in the East End gardening community\, she is past president (2019-2021) and long-time board member of the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons\, and recently joined the Board of Directors of the Westhampton Garden Club where she serves as Chair of Horticulture and member of the Pollinator Team responsible for a fledgling Pollinator Garden at the Quogue Library. She is co-author\, with Betsy Pinover Schiff\, of The Sidewalk Gardens of New York (Monacelli Press\, 2016) which describes the many ways NYC has become a greener city in the past two decades. Whitaker became a Master Gardener in 2021 after completing a course offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Service. She holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an MBA from Harvard Business School. \nAbout Thackston Crandall \nThackston Crandall is a licensed Landscape Architect and Senior Associate with LaGuardia Design Group\, located in Watermill NY and NYC. This is a great opportunity to establish new relationships\, learn about local resources\, and hear from your neighbors. \n  \nJohn Melillo\, Eastport \nJohn Melillo grew up on the east end of Long Island and is an avid fisherman. He is a disabled Vietnam Veteran who finds solace through contemporary realistic oil painting of his heritage. His art is geared to detail and storytelling through realistic presentation\, enabling the viewer to create their own narrative. Melillo started his career by taking numerous classes at the Art League of LI\, Suffolk County Community College\, the School of Visual Arts\, NY Academy of Art and the Metropolitan Museum. He has business certificates from Christies and Sotheby’s and has been featured in many articles & TV appearances. \n  \nCamille Perrottet\, East Hampton \nCamille Perrottet is a multi-disciplinary artist\, working in photography\, mural\, painting\, video and installation. Born in France and raised in Paris\, Perrottet moved to New York City in 1979 and has been based in East Hampton since 1993. Perrottet’s work has been influenced by the geographic locations she lived in\, the artistic communities she was in relationship with\, new art mediums she experimented with\, and the socio-political issues of the time\, surrounding the themes of women\, sexuality\, and politics. \n  \nBrianna L. Hernández\, Southampton \nBrianna L. Hernández is a Chicana artist\, curator\, educator\, and death doula guided by socially engaged practices. In developing as an artist and creative professional Hernández credits her late mother\, Sylvia D. Hernández\, as her most significant mentor and inspiration for the creativity\, resilience\, and compassion she demonstrated throughout her life. Her ongoing artwork focuses on the experience of providing end-of-life care\, grieving processes\, and mourning rituals based on her lived experiences\, cultural research\, and collaborations with others in the field. \n  \nDenise Silva-Dennis\, Shinnecock \nDenise Silva Dennis\, 1960\, whose Indigenous name is WeeTahMoe\, is a member of the Shinnecock Nation\, Southampton\, NY and Hassanamisco Nation\, Grafton\, Massachusetts. Silva-Dennis is a multi-disciplinary artist\, a social justice activist\, a public speaker\, and a retired Southampton Elementary School Art Teacher. WeeTahMoe is also an accomplished beadwork craftswoman. The traditional Eastern Woodland style of beadwork was handed down to her from the elder women of the Shinnecock and Hassanamisco Nipmuc Nation\, whose work includes traditional jewelry\, beaded walking sticks\, beaded pouches and beaded cradleboards. \n  \nTed Nemeth \nTed Nemeth\, currently enthralled with the challenges of his 5th professional career: a gypsy with a camera\, previously worked on Wall Street for several years\, as well as two technology start-ups. Moving beyond those endeavors\, Nemeth worked with developmentally disabled adults for several years\, and became a renowned leather craftsman with celebrity clients and private projects around the world for 11 years before picking up a camera. As a third-generation filmmaker\, Nemeth started his production company\, Currently Filming Optimism\, travelling the world creating videos for artists and charities to help drive awareness & donations. \n  \nSarah Alford \nSarah Alford is a writer\, photographer and software designer. Her work has appeared in East\, The East Hampton Star and the Sag Harbor Express magazine. Alford’s interest in horticulture extends to the animal world\, and she revels in using photography to capture easily unseen moments in nature. Alford is especially inspired by the microcosms of native host trees and plants which have a unique relationship with the creatures they support.    \n  \nMark Seidenfeld \nMark Seidenfeld lives and works in Bridgehampton\, New York. Seidenfeld was academically trained as a lawyer. He represented many galleries around the world and hovered around art until 1992 when Elisa Breton\, the widow of Andre Breton\, convinced him to start painting. Once begun\, that activity unleashed a volcano of creativity. Seidenfeld’s artistic mission is to create and cultivate his own unique visual language. Using an intuitive mind guided by the inspiration emotions\, he aims to take artistic journeys into the unknown in the process of making artworks. Hailed by The Washington Post as “Sweetly Lyrical\,” violinist Ariel Horowitz enjoys an active concert schedule playing staples alongside works by lesser-known composers from backgrounds historically underrepresented in classical music. She has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra\, the Kammerphilharmonie Hamburg\, and the Santa Fe ProMusica Orchestra and\, in recent seasons\, she premiered two of her original pieces for violin and voice at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall and the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater. Ariel is a prizewinner of the Grumiaux\, Stulberg\, and Klein International Competitions as well as the Salon De Virtuosi Career Grant. In 2020\, Ariel won the Concert Artists Guild Ambassador Prize and joined the CAG roster. Ariel is also the Founder and Artistic Director of The Heartbeat Music Project\, a tuition-free program providing instruments\, music\, and Navajo (Diné) cultural knowledge to K-12 children living in the Navajo Nation. \nAt home in a variety of musical genres and disciplines including improvisation\, Ariel has performed with acclaimed artist-activists Dr. Bernice Johnson Reagon of Sweet Honey In The Rock\, Toshi Reagon and BIGLovely\, Holly Near\, and Pete Seeger. Integrating contemporary music and historical performance\, his work defies easy categorization. Equally at home on modern and period harps\, Ramsay is dedicated to invigorating the existing canon while delving into new and underperformed works. \nA native of Nashville\, Tennessee\, Ramsay began harp studies with his mother at a young age before moving to the UK at age 16. He was awarded the undergraduate organ scholarship at King’s College\, Cambridge where he served under the direction of Stephen Cleobury. His tenure with the Choir of King’s College included performing for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in 2012\, as well as six international tours and four recordings. Parker has performed at the Concertgebouw in\, the Royal Albert Hall\, the Musée d’Orsay\, the National Center for the Performing Arts\, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts\, Verizon Hall\, and Alice Tully Hall. \nAfter receiving his bachelor’s degree in history at Cambridge\, Ramsay pursued graduate studies in historical keyboards at Oberlin Conservatory. In 2014\, he was awarded First Prize at the Sweelinck International Organ Competition. He then studied modern harp at The Juilliard School\, under the tutelage of Nancy Allen. He is a regular contributor for VAN Magazine\, and his writing has appeared in Cleveland Classical\, The New York Times and The Washington Post. \nParker is co-director of A Golden Wire\, a period-instrument ensemble devoted to French and English music from the seventeenth century. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER  LIVESTREAM\nIn celebration of Earth Day 2022\, the Parrish Art Museum presents a panel discussion with Danielle “Munnannock” Hopson-Begun\, Tela Troge\, Gaelin Rosenwaks\, and Kathleen J Graves exploring the relationship between water quality\, cultural practices\, and environmental activism on the East End. \nModerated by Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects Corinne Erni\, the panelists will bring perspectives from the visual arts and design\, Indigenous environmental restoration\, and marine biology research. \nABOUT THE PANELISTS\nDanielle “Munnannock” Hopson-Begun & Tela Troge are tribal members of the Shinnecock Indian Nation and  members of Shinnecock Kelp Farmers. The Shinnecock Kelp Farmers is a seed to sale\, multigenerational collective of six Indigenous women addressing the climate crisis. Through the cultivation and harvesting of sugar kelp in Shinnecock Bay\, their work is focused on restoring the bay and creating an environmentally friendly fertilizer from the matured kelp. \nGaelin Rosenwaks is a marine scientist\, explorer\, photographer\, and filmmaker. She began her career at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution conducting research in Antarctica and then earned her Master’s Degree in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University researching Giant Bluefin Tunas. Alarmed by the changes happening in the oceans\, Gaelin founded Global Ocean Exploration Inc to share her passion for ocean exploration\, marine conservation\, and storytelling. She now participates and conducts expeditions in every ocean to alert the public not only to the challenges facing the oceans\, but also to what science is doing to understand these changes. She has published articles in scientific journals\, newspapers and magazines and has delivered lectures at global conferences and many institutions. She has appeared as an expert and host on TV programs including on The Discovery Channel\, Science Channel\, CBS News\, and National Geographic Channel. Her photography has been displayed in many exhibitions\, including solo exhibitions at Duke University\, The Maritime Aquarium\, and the Patagonia Upper West Side Store in NYC. Her latest film project\, Finding Physty\, about her personal connection with sperm whales is the cover story in the June/July 2020 issue of Outside Magazine. \nKathleen J Graves is an artist and photographer whose work is based on her love of nature and technology\, reflecting on changing weather patterns worldwide and flooding in the Long Island area where she lives. In her Bot Studies she builds 3D objects by using organic elements and re-purposing throwaway materials and electronics. The Bots are based on science and its discoveries about Artificial Intelligence; they are becoming a species with their own intentions\, abilities\, ideas\, and purpose. They could become a threat to humans—it is this dilemma that interests the artist. The Bots are also a reference to how we live\, what we manufacture and buy\, what we forget about and throw away. Graves tries to bridge the divide between our alienation from technology’s forms and our ability to humanize them. They help her reflect on our participation in cyborg and robot formats\, their usefulness\, and our enjoyment of them. Graves has shown her work in New York\, Miami\, the Czech Republic\, Italy\, and Korea. She was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art at New York University\, and taught at Sarah Lawrence College\, Pratt Manhattan\, and the International Center of Photography in NYC. DESCRIPTION:2015\, 40 min\, Directed by Alison Klayman \n$15 | $5 Parrish Members \nREGISTER \nJoin us for a screening of the documentary\, The 100 Years Show\, starring Carmen Herrera shortly before what would be her 107th birthday\, as we commemorate the life and work of the prolific artist who recently passed away. The 100 Years Show highlights Herrera’s oeuvre which went virtually unknown for most of her life. The screening will be followed by a livestreamed Q&A with director Alison Klayman and Senior Curator Corinne Erni. \nFrom architecture studies in Cuba to New York’s Art Students League to Le Salon des Réalités Nouvelles in Paris\, Herrera’s life has spanned continents and art movements and demonstrates a persistent devotion to her work. She was a pioneer and a peer of many male artists who received great recognition in their time. Her story is just one example of the many great artists whose accomplishments were overlooked because of their gender\, ethnicity\, or nationality. The 100 Years Show demonstrates the power of artistic vision to sustain itself. \nABOUT CARMEN HERRERA \nBorn in 1915 in Havana\, Cuba\, Herrera was educated in Havana and Paris\, studying art\, art history\, and architecture. Herrera regularly exhibited her work with the Salon des Réalités Nouvelles\, an international group of artists\, and developed a distilled\, geometric style of abstraction\, reducing her palette to three colors for each composition\, then further to two. Herrera’s hard-edged canvases emerged while Ellsworth Kelly\, whose time in France overlapped with Herrera’s\, began producing his own abstractions and around the same time that Frank Stella began producing his famous black paintings. \nHerrera’s ascetic compositions\, which prefigured the development of Minimalism by almost a decade\, did not find a warm reception when she returned to New York in 1954. Since the 1990s\, Herrera’s work garnered increasing attention\, selling her first painting in 2004\, followed by an explosion of attention\, exhibitions\, and acquisitions at the Museum of Modern Art\, Walker Art Center\, Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden\, Boston Museum of Fine Arts\, and Tate Modern. Herrera’s life spanned continents and art movements and demonstrated a persistent devotion to her work. She continued to work out of her Flatiron District studio until her death at age 106. \n\nABOUT THE DIRECTOR \nAlison Klayman’s debut feature documentary Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry won a Special Jury Prize at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival. The film went on to be released theatrically around the globe and shortlisted for an Academy Award\, nominated for two Emmys and two Cinema Eye Honors\, and earned Alison a Director’s Guild of America nomination. She is a regular contributor to the New York Times’ Op-Docs series and was named one of the “20 Directors to Watch” on A.O. Scott and Manohla Dargis’ list of international filmmakers under 40. The format is simple: each invited presenter gets 20 images x 20 seconds per image to talk about living creatively. This is a great opportunity to establish new relationships\, learn about local resources\, and hear from the many creatives who call Long Island home. \nParticipants: Shelter Island School teacher Catherine Brigham and student Margaret Schultheis; Southampton High School teacher Pamela Collins and student Talus Pinto; Bridgehampton School teacher Robin Gianis and students Luna Paucar and Pearl Ann V. Cherry Brown; and East Hampton High School teacher Margaret Zubarriain with student Kym Bermeo. \n  \nABOUT THE PRESENTERS \nSHELTER ISLAND UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT \nCatherine Brigham teaches art to 15 grade levels\, ranging from 3–19 years old. Brigham earned an undergraduate degree in Art and Design in Education from Pratt Institute\, and a Master’s in Teaching Students with Disabilities from Long Island University. She lives on Shelter Island full time. \nMargaret Schultheis\, in the 11th grade\, is currently participating in the drama club and art club. Her plans for the future include tattooing and illustration. \nSOUTHHAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL \nPamela Collins has an MFA in Painting/ Drawing from Brooklyn College and both a BFA in Painting/Drawing and a BS in Art Education from SUNY New Paltz. At Southampton\, she teaches Studio in Art\, Mural Painting and Set Design\, Drawing and Painting\, College Level Drawing\, Advanced Painting\, and Portfolio Development. Collins also teaches classes at the Parrish Art Museum. \nTalus Pinto\, who works in photography\, is a senior at SHS and plans to attend the School of Visual Arts in New York City upon graduation. Pinto has been part of the SHS’s art club for 4 years and is grateful for his participation in the club. His hope for those seeing his work is\, “I hope you embrace my vision of the world through the fine arts of photography.” \nBRIDGEHAMPTON SCHOOL \nOriginally from Cambridge\, MA\, art teacher Robin Gianis found her way to the East End after graduating from Sarah Lawrence College. After an early career in retail management\, she transitioned into art education. She has taught K-12 at the Bridgehampton School and has served on the Parrish Art Museum Education Committee. A ceramic artist\, Gianis will be featured in the event Encounters with Artists: Insights into the Artistic Process at the Parrish Art Museum. \nLuna Paucar is a junior at the Bridgehampton High School whose interests include design and ceramics. This year\, she contributed to the design portions of Student Council\, National Honor Society\, Culture Club\, and the Robotics team. Paucar’s favorite subjects are Marimba and art\, and she shares these talents with friends and family from Honduras and Ecuador. By combining her culture\, Marimba\, and art\, Paucar’s goal is to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. \nOne of Pearl Ann V. Cherry Brown’s favorite classes is studio art\, and she especially loves to make props out of cardboard. She spends much of her time drawing\, and her hobbies include crafting and listening to music. \nEAST HAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL \nMargaret Zubarriain graduated from Parsons/New School of Design with a BFA in Illustration. She worked as an intern prop builder for The Jim Henson Company\, a set painter for Women’s Expressive Theater in New York\, and created murals in the Bronx\, Manhattan\, and most recently a large commission at Gurney’s in Montauk. A mother of two\, Zubarriain is in her sixth year teaching Drawing\, Painting\, and Sculpture at East Hampton High School. \nSenior Kym Bermeo\, a Latinx queer artist who lives in Springs and participates in the art club at East Hampton High School\, is member of the Teen Arts Council at Guild Hall\, and works at The Golden Eagle Art supply store. Bermeo’s goal through her work is to shine light on the hardships of her community and their identity. DESCRIPTION:In the Lichtenstein Theater \n$15 | $5 Parrish Members\, Seniors\, and Students \n2019\, 93 min\, Director Halina Dyrschka \nREGISTER  LIVESTREAM \nIn celebration of Women’s History Month\, the Parrish Art Museum in partnership with Hamptons Doc Fest and as part of the Artist’s Lens Series\, will present a screening of Beyond the Visible: Hilma af Klint.  \nHilma af Klint was an abstract artist before the term existed\, a visionary\, trailblazing figure who\, inspired by spiritualism\, modern science\, and the riches of the natural world\, began in 1906 to create unprecedented\, large-scale\, colorful\, and sensual paintings. The subject of a recent retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum\, af Klint was for years an all-but-forgotten figure in art historical discourse\, before her long-delayed rediscovery. Director Halina Dryschka’s documentary describes not only the life and craft of af Klint\, but also the process of her mischaracterization and erasure by both a patriarchal narrative of artistic progress and capitalistic determination of artistic value. Interviews with af Klint’s family and friends\, artists\, historians\, and collectors share untold stories that depict a heroine whose pursuit of art\, questions of life and fulfillment go beyond the visible. \nThe screening will be followed by a conversation with artists Dannielle Tegeder and Sharmistha Ray who co-founded Hilma’s Ghost\, a feminist artist collective\, in 2020. The collective seeks to address existing art historical gaps by cultivating a global network of women\, nonbinary\, and trans practitioners whose work addresses spirituality. Hilma af Klint’s groundbreaking exhibition at the Guggenheim in 2018 served as a reckoning for art history’s blindspots\, especially for women artists considered too ‘mystical’ for the conservative art world. \nABOUT THE DIRECTOR \nDirector Halina Dyrschka was born in Berlin\, Germany and is active as a director and producer. After studying acting\, classical singing\, and film production she founded the company Ambrosia AMBROSIA FILM in Berlin. The first film she directed\, 9andahalf’s Goodbye was shown at over 40 film festivals worldwide and has won several awards. BEYOND THE VISIBLE – HILMA AF KLINT marks her directorial feature documentary debut and is the first and only film on the Swedish artist Hilma af Klint. \nABOUT HILMA’S GHOST \nThe collective created the ABSTRACT FUTURES TAROT Deck inspired by af Klint\, which was exhibited at the 2021 Armory Show\, and organized Cosmic Geometries\, an exhibition of intergenerational and intersectional artists that examines the spiritual and aesthetic functions of abstract painting and geometry\, currently on view at The Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts. Hilma’s Ghost has produced online workshops attended by over 700 people worldwide. \nBrooklyn-based artist/art critic/educator Sharmistha Ray has explored subjective experience through the lens of queerness\, language\, and memory. They have exhibited their work—which includes drawing\, painting\, sculpture\, video installation\, and photography—in solo exhibitions in Mumbai\, New York\, and Singapore\, as well as group exhibitions worldwide. A recipient of the Joan Mitchell M.F.A. Grant with an M.F.A. in Painting from Pratt Institute\, they teach in the M.F.A. programs at Carnegie Mellon University and Parsons School of Design. \nThe work of Dannielle Tegeder\, an artist and professor at CUNY Lehman College\, has explored abstraction through the lens of systems\, architecture\, and modernism through her paintings\, drawings\, large-scale installation and other media\, as well as through collaborations with composers\, dancers\, and writers. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nIn recognition of Women’s History Month\, join us for a special screening of experimental films made by members of Women Artist Filmmakers\, a network established in 1974 to discover\, celebrate\, and support women artists who make films. Members included Dorothy Beskind\, Susan Brockman\, Doris Chase\, Silvianna Goldsmith\, Maria Lassnig\, Carolee Schneemann\, Rosalind Schneider\, Olga Spiegel\, and Alida Walsh. In 1975\, its members organized a film series as part of the exhibition Women Artists Here and Now at Ashawagh Hall in Springs\, NY. The exhibition was co-organized by visual artists Joyce Kozloff and Joan Semmel and included numerous female artists who were and are active in the East End\, including Semmel\, Lynda Benglis\, Hedda Sterne\, and Miriam Schapiro\, among others. \nThe program will be introduced by visual artist Sara VanDerBeek\, a Springs resident and co-founder of Soft Network. The event was the conclusion of Soft Network’s multi-venue programming entitled Interior Scroll or What I Did on My Vacation which explored feminist\, inter-generational\, and multi-disciplinary artistic interactions that have been integral to the ongoing development of the arts communities of the East End. \n\nAbout Soft Network \nSoft Network is a cooperative platform established by Chelsea Spengemann and Sara VanDerBeek for connective arts programming. DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON   LIVESTREAM\nIn the Lichtenstein Theater and Livestreamed \nOn the second evening of a two-part program in recognition of Black History Month\, the Parrish Art Museum in collaboration with Eastville Community Historical Society will present a panel discussion on the noted artistic pioneer and activist Gordon Parks\, his significant contributions and achievements in the field of photography\, and his lasting influence on photographers. \nDr. Georgette Grier-Key\, Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Eastville Community Historical Society\, will be joined by Donnamarie Barnes\, Director of History and Heritage at Sylvester Manor Educational Farm in Shelter Island\, and Steven John Irby\, Co-Founder & Director of Street Dreams magazine\, in a conversation surrounding the art of the photograph and its transformational power in documenting and amplifying social\, cultural\, racial\, and political issues and movements of the day. Parks’ unique style of photography and filmmaking is an enduring body of work that constantly informs us. The panelists—artists and photographers in their own right—will reexamine Parks’ work and talk about various techniques of photography and strategies for storytelling. \n  \nABOUT THE PANELISTS \nDr. Georgette Grier-Key is the Executive Director and Chief Curator of Eastville Community Historical Society of Sag Harbor and has worked in various museums\, historical societies\, and service organizations with a focus on organizational sustainability. She currently serves on the board of the Museum Association of New York and the board of the Preservation League of New York State. Additionally\, Dr. Grier-Key dedicates herself to her community by leading and serving on local and regional boards such as the NAACP Brookhaven Town Branch where she is the duly elected President. Dr. Grier- Key is an adjunct assistant professor at CUNY Medgar Evers College and the director of the Long Island History Institute at SUNY Nassau Community College. Dr. Grier-Key is a historian\, preservationist\, and curator\, using her skills and experience as an organizer and activist to further the agenda of inclusion in traditional frameworks that have practiced institutional and structural exclusion. She is a not-for-profit management specialist and practitioner with more than 20 years of experience in both business and non-profit organizations. She provides consultant services from small to mid-sized organizations including several municipalities. \n Donnamarie Barnes joined Sylvester Manor in 2014 as a volunteer and history docent\, in 2016 became the Curator & Archivist\, and now serves as the Director of History & Heritage. Over the past four years\, she has curated exhibitions at the Sylvester Manor house including Women of the Manor\, A Place in Pictures\, and All That Has Been: Our Roots Revealed. Her ongoing work of conserving the various collections\, researching and uncovering the lives and identities of the enslaved and indigenous people of Sylvester Manor is an integral part of the organization’s mission to preserve\, cultivate and share the stories of all the people of Sylvester Manor. Barnes is also Co-Director of the Plain Sight Project\, which is dedicated to uncovering\, naming\, and counting the enslaved people of the East End of Long Island. In 2015\, she curated a highly acclaimed historic tintype photography exhibition at the Eastville Community Historical Society in Sag Harbor\, entitled Collective Identity. For over thirty years Barnes worked in the editorial photography field as a photographer and photo editor for publications such as People and Essence magazines and as a photo editor at the Gamma Liaison news photo agency. A life-long summer and full-time resident of Nineveh Beach in the historic SANS Community in Sag Harbor\, Barnes grew up photographing the community and the beach landscape\, and photography remains at the heart of all of her work. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Cooper Union School of Art. \nSteven John Irby (A.K.A. Steve Sweatpants) is an artist cut directly from the cloth of Brooklyn and Queens. Photographer\, creative consultant\, and aspiring director\, Irby is an artist of the people\, dissolving the arbitrary division between low brow and high brow. His stunning black and white photographs invoke the spirit of Henri Cartier-Bresson but with a modern twist. As a result\, Irby has been called the 21st-century heir of The Decisive Moment. To experience Irby’s work is “to catch the name of God as in a dream—fleeting\, dazzling\, genuflecting.” Irby proves art need not be opaque. It need only ask the right questions. For Irby\, it is\, “Which moments are worth stopping time for?” There are many answers\, of course. The film explores the power of images in advancing racial\, economic\, and social equality as seen through the lens of Parks\, one of the most trailblazing artists\, and the generation of young photographers\, filmmakers\, and activists he inspired. Through the lens of three contemporary photographers\, we see Gordon’s legacy come to life. DESCRIPTION:  \nJustin Beal will discuss his new book\, Sandfuture\, an account of the life and work of the architect Minoru Yamasaki with Yamasaki’s granddaughter\, the muralist and children’s book author\, Katie Yamasaki. \nSandfuture is also a book about an artist interrogating art and architecture’s role in culture as New York changes drastically after a decade bracketed by terrorism and natural disaster. From the central thread of Yamasaki’s life\, Sandfuture spirals outward to include reflections on a wide range of subjects\, from the figure of the architect in literature and film and transformations in the contemporary art market to the perils of sick buildings and the broader social and political implications of how\, and for whom\, cities are built. \nABOUT JUSTIN BEAL \nJustin Beal is an artist with an extensive exhibition history in the United States and Europe. Beal graduated from Yale University with a degree in architecture and design and continued his studies at the Whitney Independent Study Program and the University of Southern California. His work has been reviewed in the New York Times\, the New Yorker\, Artforum\, Frieze\, Art in America\, Interview\, and the Los Angeles Times and is included in the permanent collections of the Albright Knox Museum\, the Hammer Museum\, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles. Beal currently teaches at Hunter College. \nABOUT KATIE YAMASAKI \nKatie Yamasaki is a muralist and children’s book artist. She has painted over 80 murals with diverse communities around the world that explore local issues of social justice. Her children’s books focus on stories from underrepresented communities. Yamasaki co-authored Everything Naomi Loved\, with Ian Lendler for Norton Young Readers\, about facing the hard changes of gentrification. When the Cousins Came and Fish for Jimmy recount personal family stories about the internment camps of WWII and growing up in a multi-racial family. Yamasaki earned her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC\, where she served on the faculty for several years. DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin artist Darlene Charneco in conversation with Corinne Erni\, Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Project\, as they discuss Charneco’s 2021 Parrish Road Show exhibition Symbiosome Schoolhouse. The site-specific exhibition is on view through October 24 at Oysterponds Historical Society in Orient\, in both the Old Point Schoolhouse and on the Historical Society grounds. Charneco presents new works on paper\, sculpture\, and video\, as well as the artist’s signature wall reliefs which she calls Touchmaps\, created largely while in residency at the William Steeple Davis Trust in Orient. \nABOUT DARLENE CHARNECO \nDarlene Charneco (b. 1971\, New York City) attended Stony Brook University for MFA Studies and Long Island University Southampton for her BFA. Exhibiting throughout the U.S. and globally\, she participated in PINTA Fair London and the Korean International Art Fair. Charneco’s work is part of Guild Hall Museum’s permanent collection\, and was featured in the Princeton Architectural Press book The Map as Art: Contemporary Artists Explore Cartography by Katherine Harmon\, and How Architecture Learned to Speculate by Mihall & Serbest through the University of Stuttgart. In 1963\, Yamasaki appeared on the cover of Time magazine\, but the critical rebuke of the World Trade Center and the spectacular demise of the Pruitt-Igoe apartments in St. Louis pushed him to the margins of the profession in the latter half of his career.
