Princenthal contributed an introductory essay to the fully illustrated catalogue\, co-published and distributed by Rizzoli International. \nIntroduced by Corinne Erni\, Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects\, the conversation will explore Kendrick’s decades-long career\, approach to artmaking\, process and material\, and the possibilities of sculpture\, followed by a short book signing for the exhibition publication. \nNancy Princenthal is a Brooklyn-based writer whose Agnes Martin: Her Life and Art (Thames & Hudson\, 2015) received the 2016 PEN/Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award for Biography. Her most recent book is Unspeakable Acts: Women\, Art\, and Sexual Violence in the 1970s (Thames & Hudson\, 2019). She is also the author of the monograph Hannah Wilke(Prestel\, 2010). A former Senior Editor of Art in America\, where she remains a Contributing Editor\, she has also written for the New York Times\, Bomb\, Hyperallergic\, Apollo\, the Brooklyn Rail and other publications. Her writing has appeared in monographs and exhibition catalogues for a wide range of artists\, including Willie Cole\, Lesley Dill\, Ann Hamilton\, Alfredo Jaar and Gary Simmons. Having taught and lectured widely\, she was a longtime faculty member of the MFA Art Writing program at the School of Visual Arts\, and was most recently a visiting lecturer at New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts. \nMel Kendrick: Seeing Things in Things was organized by the Addison Gallery of American Art\, Phillips Academy\, Andover\, Massachusetts and curated by Allison Kemmerer\, The Mary Stripp and R. DESCRIPTION:  \nREGISTER\n  \nJoin us for a talk with exhibition Curator Cristina Kahlo and Museum Executive Director Mónica Ramírez-Montagut.  \nKahlo: An Expanded Body is a groundbreaking investigation into celebrated artist Frida Kahlo (Mexican\, 1907–1954) through a series of documents\, photos\, letters\, and clinical files that shed light on her dramatic medical history and its sustained impact on her life and work. The multi-gallery exhibition provides new insight into the importance of the body as enduring source material for Kahlo’s representational and metaphorical depictions of her physical and emotional life. \nThe exhibition features more than 100 archives\, letters\, and photos—several never before seen—made available through exclusive access to private family files by Kahlo’s grandniece\, the Mexican artist Cristina Kahlo. On view are facsimiles of personal letters and postcards between Frida and family\, friends\, lovers\, and doctors; photographs of the artist and her inner circle by Mexican and international photographers including Lola Álvarez Bravo\, Florence Arquin\, Gisele Freund\, Guillermo Kahlo\, Antonio Kahlo\, and Nickolas Muray; and extensive graphic medical records and documents. He smuggled out each panel piece-by-piece with the help of fellow artists\, and saw the complete work for the first time upon his release. As Krimes’s work captured the art world’s attention\, he struggled to adjust to life outside\, living with the threat that any misstep could trigger a life sentence. Ronchi graduated with honors and distinction under the guidance of Prof. Isabella Lo Porto\,  with further study with leading international teachers including Franco Scala\, Head of the International Piano Academy of Imola; Vincenzo Balzani\, Milan; Leonid Margarius; and Riccardo Risaliti. Ronchi has won over 50 first prizes at international competitions. He received his diploma from the National Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome under the guidance of renowned concert pianist Meastro Benedetto Lupo. \nRonchi\, whose repertoire ranges from the Baroque to the late 20th century\, has a particular affinity for works from the Romantic period late 20th century Russian composers. As both a soloist and with orchestras\, Ronchi’s performances are highly appreciated for their force and charisma. \n  \nAbout Anastasiia Mazurok\nDescribed as “spellbinding” by Northwest Music Scene\, Anastasiia Mazurok is an award-winning violinist\, D’Addario artist and ambassador\, GEWA official artist\, TEDx speaker\, and the Juilliard School alumnus (Rockefeller Foundation’s fellow). Moderated by Museum Executive Director Mónica Ramírez-Montagut\, who holds a Ph.D. in architecture\, the discussion will explore the relationship between the Museum’s design from the architects’ perspective\, as well as from the viewpoint of an artist curating and exhibiting work in the space. \nThe innovative design by Herzog & de MeuronSenior Partner Mergenthaler and Studio Director Schmerbeck integrates architecture and landscape in a plan that both respects and reflects the singular natural beauty and rich artistic legacy of Long Island’s East End. Sited on 14 acres\, the purpose-built structure suggests the vernacular architecture of sheds and potato barns that for generations doubled as artist workspaces. Inspired by the light\, water\, and sky that create the unique atmosphere of the region\, the building features sky-lit galleries that mimic the light and proportions of typical artist’s studio. \n \nIn the exhibition Another Justice: US is Them\, on view through November 6\, Thomas along with other featured artists adopt dynamic and responsive approaches to activate the full volume of the architectural space. Thomas’s wall-sized works made from deconstructed flags envelop the gallery space in fabric. In the Spine\, Christine Sun Kim creates an immersive pathway between the galleries with bold\, vibrant notations from the American Sign Language. Outdoors on the building exterior and grounds\, Thomas activates the museum’s southern-facing façade with a 55–foot neon sign clearly visible from the highway. Muna Malik’s 20–foot longmirrored acrylic boat sited in the Museum’s Meadowentices visitors to venture into and explore the landscape. \nAbout Ascan Mergenthaler\nHerzog & de Meuron Senior Partner Ascan Mergenthaler is in charge of projects in Europe\, Asia\, and the Americas and has led the realization of the de Young Museum in San Francisco; the Parrish Art Museum on Long Island\, New York; the Tate Modern Project in London; the Blavatnik School of Government in Oxford; the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg; 56 Leonard Street in New York City; and Tai Kwun\, Centre for Heritage & Arts; as well as M+\, a cultural center for 20th and 21st century art\, design\, architecture\, and the moving image in Hong Kong. The Lighthouse Project\, originally formed with David Liebman alongside Perla\, Nussbaum\, and Bergonzie\, resurrects the repertoire Perla and Liebman played with Jones in the early 1970s. This special tribute concert embodies the group’s commitment to rhythm\, beat\, and the spirit of the jazz Elvin Jones magnified. \nPlease bring your own chairs. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion on black hair and its importance to health\, sense of identity\, community\, and culture\, including dermatologist Dr. Achiamah Osei-Tutu\, among others. \nABOUT THE DIRECTOR\nLawrence Green is a filmmaker\, photographer\, and DJ\, with an MFA in Film and Media Arts from American University. Green has held production and television programming positions with the Service Employee International Union and Public Broadcasting Service and has been featured in renowned venues including South by Southwest\, The Kennedy Center\, and The National Museum of African American History and Culture. Set in the hilltops of Burundi\, a group of escaped coltan miners form an anti-colonialist computer hacker collective as they attempt a takeover of the authoritarian regime exploiting the region’s natural resources and its people. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nThe Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival returns to the Parrish Art Museum with a special outdoor concert that transcends cultures and times. The program alternates works for winds and strings\, beginning with Umoja for Wind Quintet by flutist/contemporary composer Valerie Coleman. The Swahili word for “unity\,” Umoja was originally a simple family call-and-response call for unity sung at Kwanzaa. Coleman arranged the tune for her wind quintet Imani Winds\, with the melody carried by French horn. BCMF’s string players take the stage for Trio for Strings in G minor (1894) by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. Wind players return for the Humoreske for Wind Quintet (1939) by Viennese composer Alexander Zemlinsky. \nIn Jean Françaix’s String Trio in C (1933)\, three of the four brief movements are bright and crisp\, with a strong kinetic connection to the dance music the composer was writing at the time. BCMF wind players come together with oboe in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Quartet for Oboe\, Violin\, Viola\, and Cello\, K. 370/368b (1781)\, written for the composer’s friend—virtuoso oboist Friedrich Ramm. \nThe concert concludes with contemporary composer Derek Bermel’s Ghanaian dance-inspire\, Wanderings for Wind Quintet (1994) which alludes to the Muslim and Jewish quarters that exist side by without boundaries in Jerusalem’s Old City. Similarly\, in Bermel’s work\, musical threads of continuity appear and suddenly vanish\, remaining elusive. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nVirtuoso bass player and composer Santi Debriano performs with his Flash of the Spirit Quintet as part of the Parrish Art Museum’s ongoing partnership with Hamptons Jazz Fest. The outdoor concert on the Terrace will showcase Debriano’s modern and Latin jazz compositions\, notably from his recently released Flash of the Spirit project that celebrates global music influenced by Middle Eastern styles\, Brazilian folk\, and Cuban songo rhythms. The concert features trombonist Xito Lovell\, tenor saxophonist Craig Handy\, flutist Andrea Brachfeld\, drummer Tommy Campbell\, and pianist Bill O’Connell. \nBorn in Panama\, Debriano has been composing and performing contrabass and ensemble music professionally since 1982 throughout North America\, Europe\, and the Far East. His prodigious talent as an improviser\, arranger\, and composer has made him a much sought-after collaborator with musicians including Freddie Hubbard\, Sam Rivers\, Archie Shepp\, Pharaoh Sanders\, Oliver Lake\, and others. He has led or played on nearly a dozen recordings\, including four albums with Shepp’s quartet. \nAfter studying for two years at the New England Conservatory under Tiny Martin and Miroslav Vitous\, and earning an M.A. at Wesleyan University\, Debriano performed with Archie Shepp’s quartet for four years. After a three-year stint in Europe\, where he performed regularly with the Sam Rivers trio\, he relocated to New York\, working with top jazz musicians including Kirk Lightsey\, Sonny Fortune\, Chico Freeman\, Elvin Jones\, Louis Hayes\, Danilo Perez and others. \nPlease bring your own chairs. He outright created two surging new styles: Gwoka Jazz\, and Voodoo Jazz\, reuniting jazz music with its Afro-Caribbean and spiritual origins. With impressionistic writing\, powerful tone\, and wide-ranging language – both lyrical and angular – these jazz styles have fueled a growing presence on the world stage. Leading the Gwoka Jazz Project\, Schwarz-Bart recorded two albums for Universal\, Soné Ka La and Abyss\, which built his career as an internationally acclaimed jazz musician and band leader.  \nIn 2010\, he released Rise Above\, which revives his long-lasting collaboration with singer – and spouse – Stephanie McKay and blends NY urban mood and Caribbean feelings. Co-presented with Hamptons Doc Fest and in conjunction with  Landscape Pleasures\, the documentary features the influential gardener and plantsman Frank Cabot shortly before his passing at the age of 86. Cabot recounts his personal quest for perfection at Les Quatre Vents\, his 20-acre English style garden and summer estate\, which he opened to a film crew for the first time in 2009. \nNestled amid the rolling hills of the Charlevoix County in Quebec\, Les Quatre Vents has become one of the world’s foremost private gardens. Created over the course of 75 years and three generations\, this horticultural masterpiece of the 21st century is an enchanted place of beauty and surprise. Through remarks by Cabot and his family\, and with the participation of gardening experts and writers\, the film looks back at this remarkable man’s personal story and the artistic philosophy that gave birth to one of the greatest gardens in the world. \n  \nAbout the Director \nSébastien Chabot (b. 1976\, Sainte-Florence\, Quebec) is a Canadian writer\, cinematographer\, and producer\, who published his debut novel Ma mère est une marmotte in 2004. He was awarded the Prix Jovette-Bernier in 2006 for his sequel\, L’Angoisse des poulets sans plumes\, and was recently shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award for French-language fiction for the novel Noir métal. Discussing The Gardener in a feature article in Point of View Magazine\, Chabot said that working with Frank Cabot was about cultivating a film that would be as finely crafted as the garden it depicts. “Doing a personal movie about one’s personal garden might be the best way to reveal someone.” Chabot received his education at the Université du Québec à Rimouski and the Université du Québec à Montréal. He is a professor of literature at the Cégep de Rimouski. \nAbout Alicia Whitaker \nAlicia Whitaker is an executive leadership coach and consultant who has worked to support her gardening habit for decades. A home gardener and active participant in the East End gardening community\, she is past president (2019-2021) and long-time board member of the Horticultural Alliance of the Hamptons\, and recently joined the Board of Directors of the Westhampton Garden Club where she serves as Chair of Horticulture and member of the Pollinator Team responsible for a fledgling Pollinator Garden at the Quogue Library. She is co-author\, with Betsy Pinover Schiff\, of The Sidewalk Gardens of New York (Monacelli Press\, 2016) which describes the many ways NYC has become a greener city in the past two decades. Whitaker became a Master Gardener in 2021 after completing a course offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Service. Born in France and raised in Paris\, Perrottet moved to New York City in 1979 and has been based in East Hampton since 1993. Perrottet’s work has been influenced by the geographic locations she lived in\, the artistic communities she was in relationship with\, new art mediums she experimented with\, and the socio-political issues of the time\, surrounding the themes of women\, sexuality\, and politics. \n  \nBrianna L. Hernández\, Southampton \nBrianna L. Hernández is a Chicana artist\, curator\, educator\, and death doula guided by socially engaged practices. In developing as an artist and creative professional Hernández credits her late mother\, Sylvia D. Hernández\, as her most significant mentor and inspiration for the creativity\, resilience\, and compassion she demonstrated throughout her life. Her ongoing artwork focuses on the experience of providing end-of-life care\, grieving processes\, and mourning rituals based on her lived experiences\, cultural research\, and collaborations with others in the field. \n  \nDenise Silva-Dennis\, Shinnecock \nDenise Silva Dennis\, 1960\, whose Indigenous name is WeeTahMoe\, is a member of the Shinnecock Nation\, Southampton\, NY and Hassanamisco Nation\, Grafton\, Massachusetts. Silva-Dennis is a multi-disciplinary artist\, a social justice activist\, a public speaker\, and a retired Southampton Elementary School Art Teacher. WeeTahMoe is also an accomplished beadwork craftswoman. The traditional Eastern Woodland style of beadwork was handed down to her from the elder women of the Shinnecock and Hassanamisco Nipmuc Nation\, whose work includes traditional jewelry\, beaded walking sticks\, beaded pouches and beaded cradleboards. \n  \nTed Nemeth \nTed Nemeth\, currently enthralled with the challenges of his 5th professional career: a gypsy with a camera\, previously worked on Wall Street for several years\, as well as two technology start-ups. Moving beyond those endeavors\, Nemeth worked with developmentally disabled adults for several years\, and became a renowned leather craftsman with celebrity clients and private projects around the world for 11 years before picking up a camera. As a third-generation filmmaker\, Nemeth started his production company\, Currently Filming Optimism\, travelling the world creating videos for artists and charities to help drive awareness & donations. \n  \nSarah Alford \nSarah Alford is a writer\, photographer and software designer. Seidenfeld was academically trained as a lawyer. Once begun\, that activity unleashed a volcano of creativity. Seidenfeld’s artistic mission is to create and cultivate his own unique visual language. DESCRIPTION:TICKETS\nSalon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s concert program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting. \nIn a unique performance at the Museum\, harpist Parker Ramsay will bring new energy to the harp repertoire\, expanding the capability of the instrument in unexpected new ways. Integrating contemporary music and historical performance\, his work defies easy categorization. Equally at home on modern and period harps\, Ramsay is dedicated to invigorating the existing canon while delving into new and underperformed works. \nA native of Nashville\, Tennessee\, Ramsay began harp studies with his mother at a young age before moving to the UK at age 16. He was awarded the undergraduate organ scholarship at King’s College\, Cambridge where he served under the direction of Stephen Cleobury. His tenure with the Choir of King’s College included performing for the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in 2012\, as well as six international tours and four recordings. Parker has performed at the Concertgebouw in\, the Royal Albert Hall\, the Musée d’Orsay\, the National Center for the Performing Arts\, Sejong Center for the Performing Arts\, Verizon Hall\, and Alice Tully Hall. \nAfter receiving his bachelor’s degree in history at Cambridge\, Ramsay pursued graduate studies in historical keyboards at Oberlin Conservatory. In 2014\, he was awarded First Prize at the Sweelinck International Organ Competition. He then studied modern harp at The Juilliard School\, under the tutelage of Nancy Allen. He is a regular contributor for VAN Magazine\, and his writing has appeared in Cleveland Classical\, The New York Times and The Washington Post. \nParker is co-director of A Golden Wire\, a period-instrument ensemble devoted to French and English music from the seventeenth century. A prizewinner of international competitions\, Kano serves as assistant concertmaster at the Albany Symphony Orchestra and regularly plays in the New York Philharmonic. She is the concertmaster and senior artistic advisor of Pegasus: The Orchestra. In 2016\, she launched the critically acclaimed production A Manhattan Story with a unique style of violin music and storytelling. In 2018\, Kano founded the ensemble The New Yorkers\, featuring Karén Hakobyan as her duo partner. They have been performing extensively in the U.S. and Japan. \nKAORI FUJII | Flute \nBorn in Tokyo and residing in New York City\, Kaori Fujii has emerged as one of the leading imaginative and creative flutists to come out of the classical music world. Fujii has graced the stage of leading concert halls\, such as The John F. Kennedy Center\, Carnegie Hall\, Alte Oper Frankfurt\, and Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall. In 2014\, Fujii founded Music Beyond\, Inc.—a nonprofit organization that harnesses the universal power of music to empower and transform people’s lives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in Central Africa. She frequently visits DRC to provide music teacher training and women’s empowerment programs and help build music curriculum for local schools. \nKARÉN HAKOBYAN | Principal conductor & harpsichord \nDescribed as “a musician of abundant gifts and bountiful ideas” by New York Concert Review\, and “an immensely talented and dynamic performer” by Deseret Morning News\, Armenian American pianist\, composer\, and conductor Karén Hakobyan is a versatile force on the international music scene. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER  LIVESTREAM\nIn celebration of Earth Day 2022\, the Parrish Art Museum presents a panel discussion with Danielle “Munnannock” Hopson-Begun\, Tela Troge\, Gaelin Rosenwaks\, and Kathleen J Graves exploring the relationship between water quality\, cultural practices\, and environmental activism on the East End. \nModerated by Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects Corinne Erni\, the panelists will bring perspectives from the visual arts and design\, Indigenous environmental restoration\, and marine biology research. \nABOUT THE PANELISTS\nDanielle “Munnannock” Hopson-Begun & Tela Troge are tribal members of the Shinnecock Indian Nation and  members of Shinnecock Kelp Farmers. The Shinnecock Kelp Farmers is a seed to sale\, multigenerational collective of six Indigenous women addressing the climate crisis. Through the cultivation and harvesting of sugar kelp in Shinnecock Bay\, their work is focused on restoring the bay and creating an environmentally friendly fertilizer from the matured kelp. \nGaelin Rosenwaks is a marine scientist\, explorer\, photographer\, and filmmaker. She began her career at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution conducting research in Antarctica and then earned her Master’s Degree in Coastal Environmental Management from Duke University researching Giant Bluefin Tunas. Alarmed by the changes happening in the oceans\, Gaelin founded Global Ocean Exploration Inc to share her passion for ocean exploration\, marine conservation\, and storytelling. She now participates and conducts expeditions in every ocean to alert the public not only to the challenges facing the oceans\, but also to what science is doing to understand these changes. She has published articles in scientific journals\, newspapers and magazines and has delivered lectures at global conferences and many institutions. She has appeared as an expert and host on TV programs including on The Discovery Channel\, Science Channel\, CBS News\, and National Geographic Channel. Her photography has been displayed in many exhibitions\, including solo exhibitions at Duke University\, The Maritime Aquarium\, and the Patagonia Upper West Side Store in NYC. Her latest film project\, Finding Physty\, about her personal connection with sperm whales is the cover story in the June/July 2020 issue of Outside Magazine. \nKathleen J Graves is an artist and photographer whose work is based on her love of nature and technology\, reflecting on changing weather patterns worldwide and flooding in the Long Island area where she lives. In her Bot Studies she builds 3D objects by using organic elements and re-purposing throwaway materials and electronics. The Bots are based on science and its discoveries about Artificial Intelligence; they are becoming a species with their own intentions\, abilities\, ideas\, and purpose. They could become a threat to humans—it is this dilemma that interests the artist. The Bots are also a reference to how we live\, what we manufacture and buy\, what we forget about and throw away. Graves tries to bridge the divide between our alienation from technology’s forms and our ability to humanize them. They help her reflect on our participation in cyborg and robot formats\, their usefulness\, and our enjoyment of them. Graves has shown her work in New York\, Miami\, the Czech Republic\, Italy\, and Korea. She was an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Art at New York University\, and taught at Sarah Lawrence College\, Pratt Manhattan\, and the International Center of Photography in NYC. She was the Director of the Advanced Digital Print Studio at NYU between 2005-2012. \n  \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is recommended.
