Molina is most well-known for his “Children of the World” series which consists of large and small-scale sculp­tures as well as abstract paintings. The works in this series are inspired by and emanate from the artist’s vivid memories of his treacherous journey through the desert as a 16-year-old youth escaping the vio­lence of then war-torn El Salvador in the hopes of finding safe haven in the United States. \nDede Gotthelf purchased the Southampton Inn and other development properties in the town after a highly successful career in banking\, brokerage\, and government. Dede is active on several local boards and advisory committees; was recognized as one of the Top 100 Real Estate Women of the 21st Century by AREW; awarded New York State Women of Distinction (New York State); Certificate of Special Achievement for urban planning by the New Your State governor. Dede is an honors graduate from Williams College\, the Bearley School\, and holds a sailing captain’s license. With a dedicated and experienced day-to-day management team at the Inn\, Dede is focused on her passion to make the East End a sustainable year-round community through staff housing and tourism while maintaining the culture and beauty of our community. \nJolie Parcher is the Founder and Director of Mandala Yoga Center for Healing Arts and has been a certified yoga teacher from The Patanjali Yoga Center in Kathmandu\, Nepal since 1990. Jolie is certified as an Ayurvedic Diet and Lifestyle Practitioner from the Kripalu School of Ayurveda and is trained as a practitioner of the Ayurvedic hands on Treatments as well as an Aromatherapist. \nJohn J. Leonard\, of The Law Office of John J. Leonard\, is an attorney engaged in private practice in Hampton Bays with a focus on civil litigation\, matrimonial and family law\, real estate\, and estate planning. Active in his community\, John is a member of the Town of Southampton East End Regional Intervention Court\, a diversion criminal drug court\, and the Town of Southampton Zoning Board of Appeals\, as well the Hampton Bays chapters of the Rotary Club and the LeTip networking group. The program will take place in the galleries among the works Sultan selected for the exhibition. \nSultan is one of forty-one artists with deep local roots who were invited to select works from the collection to be shown along with their own. Choosing works by Charles Burchfield\, R.M. Fischer\, Valerie Jaudon\, Roy Lichtenstein\, Donald Lipski\, Dan Rizzie\, and Keith Sonnier\, he says: “All of the art I chose is abstract in nature even if it contains a kind of image—the images are loaded. They are art historical torn from the natural world but not bound by it. The artists are all mature and yet have a certainty of their craft. There is no guesswork in the making\, only in the message.” \nArtists Choose Parrish is organized by Corinne Erni\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator\, Art and Education\, with additional support from Kaitlin Halloran\, Assistant Curator and Publications Coordinator\, and Brianna L. Hernández\, Assistant Curator. \nAbout \nDONALD SULTAN (b. 1951\, Asheville\, NC) earned his BFA from the University of North Carolina\, Chapel Hill\, and MFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago before establishing himself in New York in 1975. Since his solo debut in 1977\, Sultan has excelled as a distinguished painter\, printmaker\, and sculptor. Renowned for seamlessly merging traditional and modern elements\, Sultan’s large-scale paintings\, often classified as still lifes\, present bold compositions employing industrial materials like tar and concrete\, contributing to the unique texture and character of his pieces. Sultan’s art\, described by him as a blend of basic geometric and organic forms with a formal purity\, has left an indelible mark on contemporary art. Sultan’s subjects evolve organically\, maintaining powerful statements amid abstraction. His work\, showcased globally in solo and group exhibitions\, is a part of prestigious permanent collections\, including The Museum of Modern Art\, the Dallas Museum of Art\, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. \nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is recommended. Times declared it a “hands-down winner.” Alex shares his passion for healthy clean food through his dishes by not using butter\, flour and only the finest quality and locally sourced ingredients.\n\nShannon Willey is the visionary behind Sea Green Designs\, where the essence of coastal living meets eco-conscious elegance. Since launching her business in 2000\, Shannon has skillfully blended her academic roots – a fusion of Fashion Design from FIT and Environmental Studies from SUNY Buffalo – to revolutionize the concept of home aesthetics. With an innate love for color and texture\, and an expert eye for proportions\, Shannon’s design philosophy is deeply influenced by the serene and timeless beauty of the coastal Hamptons. \nGianna Volpe is a passionate and award-winning writer\, multi-platform reporter and host of “The Heart of The East End” on Long Island’s only local NPR radio station\, WLIW-FM. She broadcasts LIVE from the WLIW-FM studio in Southampton 9-11 every weekday morning featuring music from all decades and genres\, as well as interviews with folks from all walks of life\, which were lauded by the New York Press Association twice-over in 2023. Encore episodes of The Heart air every midnight on 88.3 FM throughout the East End and Coastal Connecticut\, 96.9 FM in Western Suffolk and are streamed/archived online at WLIW.org/radio. \nKeith E. Davis opened the first Golden Pear on Mainstreet\, Southampton in 1987\, followed by East Hampton in 1991\, and Bridgehampton in 1996. Keith learned the restaurant business through many years of experience that began at the age of 14 washing dishes and preparing food at a local seafood restaurant. During his college years\, Keith worked four summer seasons at the famous Dune Deck Hotel located on the Atlantic Ocean in Westhampton Beach. There he refined his front-of-house skills and worked very closely with the chef. Keith learned off-premise-catering while working as a sous-chef at Barefoot Contessa\, a beautiful gourmet food store-market-caterer\, before an opportunity opened up for\nKeith to take over the fabulous location on the corner we all now know as the Golden Pear Café Southampton. \nCarmindy Bowyer is a New York-based editorial makeup artist\, beauty/lifestyle expert\, TV personality\, author\, speaker\, and entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in beauty. For over a decade\, millions of viewers counted on Carmindy to teach them her insider makeup tips and tricks on TLC’s hit show “What Not To Wear” but what really inspired her viewers was her confidence-boosting attitude towards everyone. Carmindy taught them how to see their unique beauty and stop any negative commentary going on in their heads. She showed that people of all ages\, skin tones\, and features had the right to love and celebrate themselves. Carmindy is currently working out of Water Mill\, NY on her national projects. \nRandy King has been involved in every facet of the fitness industry on the east end of Long Island and New York City for at least 30 years. He managed the Gym Source Southampton location\, a former leader in residential and commercial fitness distribution\, and was responsible for driving sales and maintaining positive customer interactions. Randy branched out on his own in 2021 forming Shinnecock Functional Fitness\, LLC a rubber gym floor installation company. He actively coordinates and designs flooring options with some of the biggest builders and architects in the Hamptons. The documentary depicts the humanity of Haitian culture through the lens of a Haitian-American filmmaker who seeks to uplift the rich diversity of Haiti and its historical legacy. The film\, affectionately named after an interaction Constant had with Carine Fabius\, an art curator in West Hollywood\, went on to screen at Cannes Film Festival in 2022. \nAbout the Director\nAs an independent filmmaker\, Jacquil Constant has emerged as a leader in Haitian film\, dedicated to portraying the rich tapestry of Haitian art and culture in a different yet authentic light. Constant received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Film Production and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Pan African Studies and Cinema Television and Arts from California State University Northridge (CSUN). In 2006\, Constant established his own production company\, Constant Production\, which has various music videos\, short films\, and commercial productions to its credit. Constant’s career has led him to work with networks such as MTV\, BET\, and VHI where he worked in various capacities including production\, post-production\, and casting of reality television shows\, and is the founder of the first-ever Haiti International Film Festival in Southern California. \nFriday Nights are generously supported by The Corcoran Group. Recently reviewed by The New York Times\, THE SLIP delves into six visual artist biographies\, tenderly researched with an interpretive mood that echoes the debate on a philosophical approach to art making\, with “a neighborhood-eye view of art history” (Walker Mimms\, New York Times\, 2023). Peiffer’s publication includes profiles of several Parrish permanent collection artists – Agnes Martin\, James Rosenquist\, and Jack Youngerman\, alongside Robert Indiana\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Delphine Seyrig\, and Lenore Tawney. Peiffer will read excerpts from the book and discuss several of the artists\, their works\, and historical photo references. \nAbout THE SLIP\nFor just over a decade\, from 1956 to 1967\, a collection of dilapidated former sail-making warehouses clustered at the lower tip of Manhattan became the quiet epicenter of the art world. Coenties Slip\, a dead-end street near the water\, was home to a circle of wildly talented and varied artists that included Robert Indiana\, Ellsworth Kelly\, Agnes Martin\, James Rosenquist\, Delphine Seyrig\, Lenore Tawney\, and Jack Youngerman. As friends and inspirations to one another\, they created a unique community for unbridled creative expression and experimentation\, and the works they made at the Slip would go on to change the course of American art. \nNow\, for the first time\, Prudence Peiffer pays homage to these artists and the unsung impact their work had on the direction of late twentieth-century art and film. This remarkable biography\, as transformative as the artists it illuminates\, questions the very concept of a “group” or “movement\,” as it spotlights the Slip’s eclectic mix of gender and sexual orientation\, abstraction and Pop\, experimental film\, painting\, and sculpture\, assemblage and textile works. \nAbout Prudence Peiffer\nPrudence Peiffer is an art historian\, writer\, and editor\, specializing in modern and contemporary art. Part I features a reception and exhibition tour; panel discussion on hip-hop; and screening of the 1990 hip-hop classic House Party. A ticketed off-site afterparty follows the screening (Please note: The film is rated R and all children under the age of 17 are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.) \nTour\nThe evening begins with a reception and brief tour of the new exhibition James Brooks: A Painting Is a Real Thing\, a retrospective of the abstract expressionist artist who lived and worked in Springs\, East Hampton\, from 1957 until his passing in 1992\, and was a key figure in the local art community. The exhibition features more than 100 of the most important paintings\, prints\, and works on paper by Brooks\, dating from the 1920s to 1983. \nHip Hop Panel Discussion\nThree panelists will discuss the half-century history of hip-hop\, and its profound\, enduring impact on music and culture. Panelists include Bakari Kitwana—author\, journalist\, and political analyst who directs the Rap Sessions: Community Dialogues on Hip-Hop; 1/2 Pint—an educator\, hip-hop artist\, educational consultant\, podcast co-host\, and webcast producer; and The Legendary DJ Belal—an A&M recording artist\, touring DJ\, and member of Groove B Chill\, Uptown. \nFilm: House Party\n(1990\, 1hr 40 min.\, Rated R)\nHouse Party was written and directed by Reginald Hudlin\, based on his award-winning Harvard University student film. McPherson was playing and performing by age 12 at Barry Harris’ Jazz Cultural Theater and would attend the prestigious LaGuardia High School of the Arts\, later making debuts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. McPherson would earn a full scholarship to the Jackie McLean Institute at the Hartt School of Music\, University of Hartford\, and go on to perform with McLean for nearly 15 years and major venues and festivals worldwide. \nAbraham Burton is a world-renowned saxophonist and educator\, prominent on the jazz scene\, with two Grammy award-winning albums. Like McPherson\, Burton attended the LaGuardia High School of the Arts as well as the McLean Institute of Music at the University of Hartford.  In 2013\, Burton received the prestigious Ralph Bunche Fellowship at Rutgers University where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Music and has since joined the faculty at both Rutgers and Hartford\, where his classes are in high demand. His decades of experience and commitment to music have made him an exceptional musician and gifted educator. Burton’s professional career initiated with master drummer Arthur Taylor and would begin touring throughout Europe and at popular New York jazz clubs including The Village Vanguard\, Blue Note\, Sweet Basil and Birdland. \nAbout Hamptons Jazz Fest \nHamptons Jazz Fest\, produced by The Jam Session\, Inc\, is a series of performances that bring world-class musicians in the fields of Jazz\, Latin\, and World music to a diverse cross-section of populations in the East End of Long Island\, held in iconic venues throughout July\, August and September. In 1952\, Rebecca Bolling Littlejohn assumed the presidency of the Parrish’s Board of Trustees and began a crusade that would rename\, rebrand\, and revive the waning institution and bring it into the 20th Century\, including the acquisition of the first William Merritt Chase paintings and also works by contemporary East End artists Fairfield Porter\, Larry Rivers\, and John D. Graham. Join Chief Curator Emeritus\, Alicia G. Longwell\, for a reflection on this remarkable innovator while recalling her own four-decade career at the Museum—so often inspired by Mrs. Littlejohn’s stirring legacy. \nLongwell served as the Parrish Art Museum’s Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator\, Art and Education for over three decades until her retirement in October 2022. She received her Ph.D. from the Graduate Center\, City University of New York\, where her dissertation topic was John Graham. Throughout her tenure\, she was integral in building the Museum’s collection through identifying and pursuing acquisitions\, including major works by Ross Bleckner\, Mary Heilmann\, Lonnie Holley\, Elizabeth Peyton\, David Salle\, Alan Shields\, and Joe Zucker. \nAmong her most notable curatorial achievements are Sand: Memory\, Meaning and Metaphor (2008)\, John Graham: Maverick Modernist (2017)\, and Affinities for Abstraction: Women Artists on Eastern Long Island\, 1950-2020 (2021). Longwell ushered the Museum into its new building in Water Mill\, planning the inaugural installations of the Parrish collection for the 2012 opening that featured the exhibition Malcolm Morley: Painting\, Paper\, Process (2012). In 2012\, Le won a coveted fellowship position with Ensemble Connect (formerly Ensemble ACJW\, the Academy of Carnegie Hall and the Juilliard School and the Weill Institute of Music) and has performed regularly at Carnegie Hall\, the Juilliard School\, and other venues around New York City. \nAmong the many selections in her Salon Series program\, Le’s dynamic pairings of American and non-American musical works will include two works that combine classical and pop music genres. French composer Francis Poulenc’s florid\, lyrical Improvisation no. 15: Hommage à Édith Piaf—the quintessential French chanteuse—is coupled with a piano arrangement of George Gershwin’s distinctly American Rhapsody in Blue that combines elements of classical and jazz\, established with the iconic opening siren-like clarinet riff and continuing with sections that evoke the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple in the 1920s. DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\n  \n$25 Members | $35 Adults (nonmembers) | $20 Students | $10 Children \nAhead of Valentine’s Day and in conjunction with the exhibition Kahlo: An Expanded Body\, the Parrish presents a solo performance by pianist Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner. The concert will pay homage to the love of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera\, and their shared friendship with Mexican composer Carlos Chavez. A thoughtfully curated program includes works by Chavez as well as Jesús González Rubio\, Leonard Bernstein\, Consuelo Velázquez\, Manuel Ponce\, among others. \nDescribed by the San Francisco Chronicle as “a gifted virtuoso\,” Sanchez-Werner holds multiple degrees from Juilliard and Yale\, was named a Gilmore Young Artist\, an honor awarded to the most promising American pianists. Sanchez-Werner has performed at the White House and Kennedy Center for Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden\, and was featured on NPR\, PBS\, CNN International\, the Wall Street Journal\, and WDR-Arte. Alpern\, Leslie Wayne\, and Lucy Winton as they discuss their works on view in An Expanded Portrait: Works from the Permanent Collection with Curatorial Assistant and Publications Coordinator Kaitlin Halloran\, and Curatorial Fellow Brianna L. Hernández.  The exhibition features 16 artists exploring self-representation and the ways in which women experience the world. \n  \n\n\nLinda K. Alpern (American\, born 1951)\, represented in the exhibition with her 1999 photograph Mabel D’Amico\, has a career that spans 30 years. In 2003\, she was artist in residence at the American Academy in Rome\, where her photographs were likened to the Italian New Wave and Magnum School of photojournalism. In 2005\, she won best in show in a Guild Hall competition\, resulting in a solo exhibition of 65 photographs. Alpern has participated in many group shows\, and her work is in the permanent collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art\, Guild Hall Museum\, and the Parrish Art Museum. For the past ten years she has been capturing images of children playing while their parents do laundry in the Sag Harbor laundromat. \n  \nLeslie Wayne (German\, born 1953)\, known for her highly dimensional paintings often described as sculptural\, explores the intersection of abstraction and figuration\, forms in nature\, and the perception and relationship between object and image. Her process includes scraping\, folding\, collaging\, and cutting in an effort to build up the desired surface which is further accentuated by meticulous layering of varied textures of paint—techniques evident in her colored pencil and collage work\, Twist ‘n’ Shout (2007–08). Wayne lives and works in New York and has been represented by Jack Shainman Gallery since 1992. Her work is featured in significant public collections\, including the Miami Museum of Contemporary Art\, Museum of Fine Arts Houston\, Cooper Hewitt Design Museum\, Portland Museum of Art\, and Birmingham Museum of Art. \n  \nLucy Winton (American\, born 1956)\, represented in the exhibition with the ’70\, (2010\, graphite\, ink\, and gouache on paper) became immersed in drawing while studying fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Much of her work is inspired by children’s book illustrations and romantic tradition\, with nocturnal scenes influenced by her years of working midnight shifts. Winton has been part of many solo and group exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum\, Center for Contemporary Printmaking\, Flag Art Foundation\, and Southampton Arts Center\, and has been represented by Tripoli Gallery since 2016. She received an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and a BA from the University of California at Santa Cruz. \n  \n\nAdvance ticket purchase with pre-event registration is recommended. Kendrick and Dunham\, longtime friends and both former studio assistants to Dorothea Rockburne\, will explore their respective careers as artists and approach to artmaking. \nCarroll Dunham (b. 1949\, New Haven\, CT) is a contemporary American painter\, whose career has encompassed elements of Abstract Expressionism\, Surrealism and Neo-expressionism\, moving from abstraction to figuration. Dunham has held global solo exhibitions at Museum Ludwig\, Cologne\, Millesgården\, Stockholm; and Drammens Museum\, Drammen\, Norway\, followed by a mid-career retrospective was held at the New Museum of Contemporary Art\, New York. Dunham’s work is held in numerous esteemed collections including the Art Institute of Chicago\, Brooklyn Museum\, Museum of Modern Art\, Museum of Contemporary Art\, Los Angeles\, Philadelphia Museum of Art\, Walker Art Center\, and Whitney Museum of American Art\, among others. \n\n\nMel Kendrick: Seeing Things in Things was organized by the Addison Gallery of American Art\, Phillips Academy\, Andover\, Massachusetts and curated by Allison Kemmerer\, The Mary Stripp and R. Crosby Kemper Director. Almost immediately after the birth of her business\, Town and Country Magazine published a piece on her work\, and her brand and business were truly ablaze. She has received repeated coverage in high fashion magazines including InStyle\, Vogue\, Cosmopolitan\, and Vanity Fair. Her all-inclusive work reflects a respect for clean\, organic\, architectural\, and colorful pieces\, to be incorporated in the lives of busy executives or Fashionistas. Dale’s pieces have been embraced by the worlds of fashion\, art\, film\, and television and have sold at Ralph Lauren\, Bergdorf Goodman\, Saks Fifth Avenue\, Moda Operandi\, Serenella\, Grayson De Vere\, and others. \nPeter Sabbeth\, Partner\, Oza Sabbeth Architects\, Bridgehampton \nPeter was a fine art painter in the mid 90’s when he first started designing and building loft spaces in Brooklyn’s Dumbo neighborhood. Chiffert\, Chiffert Architectural Engineering and Construction Services\, Southampton \nMarc A Chiffert\, was born in France\, grew up in Brazil\, went to school in Canada and moved to the US in 1983.  Marc grew up in an art family\, where his mother was an international art dealer specializing in French and Israeli contemporary art\, and later Brazilian art too.   Marc’s mother had a gallery in Fairfield County\, Gallerie Vendome for 20 years.  By Profession\, Marc is an NYS licensed engineer with a professional architectural engineering practice in Southampton.  Marc is also the Co-Chairperson of the Southampton Village Planning Commission and a member of the Town of Southampton Licensing Review Board.  Marc sits on various boards\, including the Friends of McGill University. \nSylvia Wong\, Owner\, The Roundtree\, Amagansett  \nSylvia Wong is the owner of The Roundtree\, a Small Luxury Hotel property that opened in Amagansett in 2020.  After a decades long career as a corporate attorney\, first at Paul\, Weiss\, Rifkind\, Wharton & Garrison\, a New York City law firm\, and then at IBM’s Armonk and Asia offices\, she joined the Board of Directors of WTI\, Inc.\, a private investment firm\, in 2015 and has been working closely with it to identify\, evaluate and negotiate real estate investments. \nHer love for traveling and the wonderful memories she collected from those travels inspired her to open The Roundtree.
