DESCRIPTION:  \nThe New World Symphony (NWS) Ensemble—fresh from a concert by the entire NWS orchestra at Carnegie Hall—will appear in a special concert at the Parrish Art Museum. The 12-person chamber ensemble performs as part of Salon Series\, the Museum’s classical music program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting. \nThe New World Symphony\, America’s Orchestral Academy\, prepares graduates of music programs for leadership roles in professional orchestras and ensembles. In the 31 years since its co-founding by Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas and Lin and Ted Arison\, New World Symphony has helped launch the careers of more than 1\,100 alumni worldwide. A laboratory for the way music is taught\, presented and experienced\, the New World Symphony consists of 87 young musicians\, and offers in-depth exposure to traditional and modern repertoire\, professional development training and personalized experiences working with leading guest conductors\, soloists and visiting faculty. DESCRIPTION:Salon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s concert program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting\, presents trumpeter Brandon Ridenour\, and pianist Jeremy Jordan. \nA virtuoso trumpeter and composer\, Brandon Ridenour’s brilliance and self-assurance on the concert stage led to his victory at the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition. His wide-ranging activities as a soloist and chamber musician\, paired with his passion for composing and arranging\, are manifested in his versatile performances and unique repertoire. A graduate of The Juilliard School\, Brandon won the 2006 International Trumpet Guild solo competition. \nJeremy Jordan has appeared as soloist and chamber musician at notable venues in the United States and Europe including Carnegie Hall\, Orchestra Hall in Chicago\, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam\, and the Rudolfinum in Prague. DESCRIPTION:  \nSalon Series\, the Parrish Art Museum’s concert program featuring world-class artists performing in an intimate\, casual setting\, presents classical guitar and cello duo\, Boyd Meets Girl. \nBoyd Meets Girl pairs Australian classical guitarist Rupert Boyd with American cellist Laura Metcalf. The duo performs an eclectic and engaging range of repertoire\, from the baroque through modern day\, including many of their own arrangements. Both acclaimed soloists in their own right\, Boyd has been described as “truly evocative” by The Washington Post\, and as “a player who deserves to be heard” by Classical Guitar Magazine\, while Metcalf\, also a member of the ensembles Sybarite5 and Break of Reality\, has been called “brilliant” by Gramophone. Boyd Meets Girl has toured throughout the USA\, Australia\, India and Nepal\, including appearances at the Newport Music Festival (Rhode Island)\, the Gharana Music Festival (Kathmandu\, Nepal) and the Monsoon Music Festival (Kolkata\, India). In 2017 Boyd Meets Girl released its debut album on the Grammy award-winning label Sono Luminous\, in conjunction with a 40-concert world tour. The album reached #3 on the Billboard Traditional Classical chart and was described as “winning” by Classical Guitar Magazine and received the following review in Gramophone: “They play like one\, with a harmony of purpose as sure as their intonation.” The album has been broadcast on New York’s WQXR and SiriusXM\, among others\, and was selected as “Album of the Week” on California’s KDFC and Australia’s national ABC Classic FM. SUMMARY:TALK & BOOK SIGNING: Renate Aller\, Mountain Interval
DESCRIPTION:Join photographer Renate Aller and Parrish Art Museum Director Terrie Sultan as they discuss Aller’s new book\, Mountain Interval\, followed by a book signing. \nAller is a contemporary photographer from Germany based in New York. As a child\, she spent vacations visiting\, hiking\, and photographing the mountains of Austria\, Germany\, and Italy\, beginning her lifelong appreciation for nature and the outdoors. Her latest project includes mountain peaks from six continents. These photographs were taken from locations as high as 22\,500 feet (adjacent to Mount Everest) to the European glaciers and mountain peaks of her childhood vacations. The subject matter is monumental\, yet the images connect the viewer in a way that is not overpowering. Aller engages us with these giants in all their detail\, the veins and textures of the rocks in their constantly transient state. She isolates the mountain from its expected surroundings\, using and presenting the familiar and the known in an intimate way\, relating to parallel realities from different locations\, opening up conversations between the different (political) landscapes in which we live. \nThe book includes 61 images from the Mountain Interval portfolio. DESCRIPTION:Parrish Collection artist Jeremy Dennis reflects on Thomas Joshua Cooper’s photographs on view in the exhibition Refuge\, capturing migration\, settlement\, and history of the East End\, including the Shinnecock Reservation. Moderated by Parrish Director Terrie Sultan. \n  \nAbout Jeremy Dennis \nJeremy Dennis (born 1990) is a contemporary fine art photographer and a tribal member of the Shinnecock Nation in Southampton\, NY. In his work\, he explores indigenous identity\, culture\, and assimilation. \nDennis was one of 10 recipients of a 2016 Dreamstarter Grant from the national non-profit organization Running Strong for American Indian Youth\, which he used to pursue his project\, On This Site\, which uses photography and an interactive online map to showcase culturally significant Native American sites on Long Island\, a topic of special meaning for Dennis\, who was raised on the Shinnecock Nation Reservation. He also created a book and exhibition from this project. Most recently\, Dennis received the Creative Bursar Award from Getty Images in 2018 to continue his series Stories. \nIn 2013\, Dennis began working on the series\, Stories—Indigenous Oral Stories\, Dreams and Myths.Inspired by North American indigenous stories\, the artist staged supernatural images that transform these myths and legends to depictions of an actual experience in a photograph. \nHe has been part of several group and solo exhibitions\, including Stories—Dreams\, Myths\, and Experiences\, for The Parrish Art Museum’s Road Show (2018)\, \nHe currently lives and works in Southampton\, New York on the Shinnecock Reservation. \nLearn More About the Artist\nFriday nights are made possible\, in part\, by Presenting Sponsor:\nAdditional support provided by The Corcoran Group and Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder.
