SUMMARY:Curator-Led Tour | Shirin Neshat: Born of Fire
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n\nFree for Members | $12 Guests of Member | Free for Resident Benefits Passholders | $30 Adults | $24 Seniors | Free for Students & Children \nJoin us for a tour of Shirin Neshat: Born of Fire\, led by Scout Hutchinson\, Associate Curator of Exhibitions. \nAdvance registration is recommended. Limited spaces will be available at the door. \nAbout the Exhibition\nShirin Neshat: Born of Fire marks the artist’s first museum exhibition in the New York area in over 20 years. The show offers a non-linear survey of Neshat’s artistic development\, presenting focused installations of four significant bodies of work. These range from her first major photographic works\, Women of Allah (1993–7)—images inspired by women’s involvement in the Islamic Revolution and Iran-Iraq War—to The Book of Kings (2012)\, a portrait series that calls on the tradition of Persian epic poetry to address the Arab Spring protest movement. The exhibition will also include more recent projects that present Neshat’s surreal film and video works alongside still photographs\, including Land of Dreams (2019)\, in which the artist turns her attention to exploring American culture from the perspective of an Iranian artist in exile\, and The Fury (2022–3)\, addressing sexual exploitation of female political prisoners. \n\nThough distinct\, all four bodies of work are connected by motifs of rebellion\, storytelling\, and human connection; presented together\, they reveal how these key themes have developed throughout Neshat’s artistic evolution. The exhibition also features a gallery dedicated to her private collection of work by fellow artists\, from friends such as Marina Abramović and Robert Longo to artists based in the Middle East. This installation reveals Neshat’s influences as well as her championship of lesser-known peers\, especially from cultures where censorship impedes free expression. \nShirin Neshat: Born of Fire is organized by Corinne Erni\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator\, Art and Education\, with Scout Hutchinson\, Associate Curator of Exhibitions. \nExhibition Support\nLead sponsorship for Shirin Neshat: Born of Fire is provided by Veronica Beard\, Agnes Gund\, and the Robert Lehman Foundation. \n \nWe are grateful for the support of Jacqueline Brody; Alaleh Khatibi and Ariel Ostad; Sandy and Stephen Perlbinder; Sarika Singh and Vivek Bantwal\, Goldman Sachs Gives; Fern and Lenard Tessler; Neda Young and Family; Susan and Frank Dunlevy; Yanina Fuertes; Amy and Steven Horowitz; Monika and Deven Parekh; Alexandra Stanton and Sam Natapoff; George Wells and Manfred Rantner; Barbara Hoffman; Nina Yankowitz and Barry Holden; Gladstone Gallery; and Ellen Kern. \nWe are also grateful to Bri-Tech\, Inc. and The Carpetman for their in-kind support. \nThe Parrish Art Museum’s programs are made possible\, in part\, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and by the property taxpayers from the Southampton School District and the Tuckahoe Common School District.

SUMMARY:Parrish X Avram Gallery Southampton Tour
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER  JOIN TODAY\nJoin Parrish Contemporary Circle Members for an exclusive tour of the Avram Gallery at Stony Brook Southampton with Parrish Collection artist Susan Vecsey. The event includes a light reception. \nThis event is for Contemporary Circle level Members of the Parrish Art Museum. Advanced registration is required and limited space is available. \nAbout The East End: In the Abstract at the Avram Gallery\nFor nearly a century\, Long Island’s East End has been a sanctuary tor abstract artists. From these shores they produced a new alphabet; symbols belonging to a universal language of line\, color\, shape\, and gesture. In 1944\, two of the leading figures within the Abstract Expressionist movement\, Jackson Pollock and Lee Krasner\, traded their Manhattan apartment and loft studios tor a rustic farmhouse and barn studio in the Springs\, a rural hamlet of East Hampton. In the coming years\, throngs of abstract artists would relocate to Eastern Long Island or establish seasonal studios here. \nThe works featured in this exhibition\, highlights from the permanent collection of Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center\, celebrate some of the abstract artists who lived and worked on the East End. Learn more→ \nThe Parrish Contemporary Circle Membership is designed for art-lovers and emerging collectors. Membership includes invitations to tailored art events and socials in NYC and on eastern Long Island. \nFor more information\, to join or upgrade your Membership\, please contact us at membership@parrishart.org or 631.283.2118 x167. \n\nThis event was organized by the Parrish Contemporary Circle Committee. \nCurrent Members\nChristine Berry\, Berry Campbell (Chair)\nSteven Sergiovanni\, Steven Sergiovanni Art Advisory (Vice Chair)\nKurt Carstensen\, Weekly World News\nThad Davis\, Leerink Partners\nElena Frampton\, Frampton Co.\nNadine Homann\, NH Design Studios\nJohn S. Working with their art teachers\, after school programs and in art clubs\, the students demonstrate creativity\, enthusiasm\, and technical skill in media ranging from painting to sculpture\, drawing\, and photography. This exhibition will also feature student works created with visiting artist Andrea Cote. \nVisiting Artist Initiative\nThe Parrish’s Visiting Artist Initiative\, How Artists Work\, connects students and teachers with working artists\, providing insights into their artistic practices and guiding students through their own creative explorations. The program has expanded to include participants in the Access Parrish program. This year\, the exhibition highlights work created by students in collaboration with visiting artist Andrea Cote. Drawing on her recent project for the Museum’s 13th Parrish Road Show at Bridge Gardens in Fall 2024\, To Belong to the World\, Cote shared her process and inspiration for the site-specific works which incorporated garden plant life and explored her body’s connection to nature’s cycles. Students experimented with several techniques she uses to develop her imagery including cyanotype and printmaking\, incorporating themes of the human body and our interconnectedness with nature. The final installation of the show is curated by the ARTscope Teen Council.  \nAbout Linda White & The Imagination Play Project\nAs a play curator\, Linda White’s focus began with young children and has grown to working with people of all ages and abilities. Drawing inspiration from the schools in Reggio Emilia\, Italy\, and the rich aesthetic landscape of NYC\, she creates experiences using a variety of objects that encourage exploration\, engage the senses\, and inspire creativity. Learn more → \nSouthampton String Ensemble\nValentina Alvarez\, Nancy Caine\, Julie Chiliquinga-Nava\, Evelyn Gutierrez\, Mariely Isalde Gonzalez\, Katie Terry\, Chloe Voluck-Sviedrys

SUMMARY:Curator-Led Tour | Charlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n\nFree for Members | $12 Guests of Member | $10 Resident Benefits Passholders | $30 Adults | $24 Seniors | Free for Students & Children \nIntroductory remarks by Esperanza Leon\, Co-President | Brooks-Park Home & Studios\, and Scott Bluedorn\, Parrish Collection Artist \nJoin us for a tour of Charlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color\, led by Associate Curator & Publications Manager Kaitlin Halloran. \nAdvanced registration is recommended. Limited spaces will be available at the door. \nAbout the Exhibition\nCharlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color is a survey comprising more than 70 paintings and works on paper\, drawn exclusively from the 2017 gift of works to the Parrish by the James and Charlotte Brooks Foundation. Overshadowed by the attention given to the work of her husband\, James Brooks\, Park kept a fairly low profile over the course of her career while painting some of the strongest and most brilliantly colored canvases of her time. Color and form\, often related to the living environment surrounding the studio she shared with her husband\, were strong and constant forces in her work.

SUMMARY:Gallery Talk | Ralph Gibson—Nature : Object
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n\nFree for Members | $12 Guests of Member | $10 Resident Benefits Passholders | $30 Adults | $24 Seniors | Free for Students & Children \nJoin us for a tour of Ralph Gibson—Nature : Object\, with artist Ralph Gibson and Corinne Erni\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator of Art and Education. \nAdvanced registration is recommended. Limited spaces will be available at the door. \nAbout the Exhibition\nThe Parrish presents a selection of photographs by Ralph Gibson from a series based on the relationship between shapes found in nature and human constructs; positing that nature is visually evident in all genres of industrial design\, and architecture is evoked in the correlation between form and ergonomic function. In this exhibition\, Gibson highlights the relationship between perspective\, color\, and proportion. The 35mm Leica format and optical glass are an essential component of the work\, and the dimensions of the frame are based on the ancient Greek “Golden Means.” \nAbout Ralph Gibson\nRalph Gibson (b. 1939\, Hollywood\, California) was the son of an assistant director to Alfred Hitchcock and as a young boy would visit movie sets during filming; he also worked as an extra and acted in bit parts. He was impressed by the power of the camera lens and the intensity of the lights. Gibson studied photography while in the U.S. Navy and later at the San Francisco Art Institute; he worked as an assistant to Dorothea Lange and collaborated with Robert Frank on two films. Gibson has had a lifelong fascination with books and book making; since the 1970 publication of The Somnambulist\, his work has been steadily impelled toward the printed page\, with at least forty monographs issued. \nGibson’s photographs are included in more than 180 museum collections around the world and have appeared in hundreds of one-person exhibitions. He has lectured and led workshops in more than twenty countries. In 2010 he collaborated with Lou Reed on the film Red Shirley\, which was screened in festivals in Europe and North America. Gibson’s awards include fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts\, as well as the Leica Medal of Excellence and a Leica Hall of Fame Award\, a Lucie Achievement Award\, and the Silver Plumb Award. A Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur\, he holds honorary doctorates from Ohio Wesleyan University and the University of Maryland. In 2019 he was elected to the International Photography Hall of Fame. The Gibson | Goeun Museum of Photography\, which opened in Busan\, South Korea\, in 2022 and houses more than a thousand original prints\, is the most comprehensive collection of the artist’s work in Asia.

Additionally\, she is the first woman artist\, along with Mary Cassatt\, to be included in Janson’s History of Art text. \nAbout the Film\nAt 88 years-old\, Audrey Flack holds a unique place in the history of contemporary art in America. Feminist\, rebel\, mother\, painter\, sculptor\, and teacher\, Audrey’s often controversial 40-year career evolved from abstract expressionism in the 1950s to photorealism in the 1970s. One of the first women ever included in the famed Janson’s History of Art\, Audrey continues to create\, explore\, and inspire with her unique style and indomitable spirit. Queen of Hearts follows Flack as she takes her work in a brand-new direction and reveals her long-term struggles as the mother of a child with autism. Flack has something deep and genuine to communicate to the world. She is a provocateur and a rebel\, an example and an inspiration. Queen of Hearts is a moving portrait of an artist who is still testing\, still experimenting\, still searching. \nFriday Nights are made possible by support from The Corcoran Group. Support for films at the Parrish is provided in part by Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs.

SUMMARY:Curator-Led Tour | A New Subjectivity 1979/2024
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nMembers at the Parrish Contemporaries Circle level and above are invited to join us for a Curator-led tour of A New Subjectivity 1979/2024. Tour is limited to a group of 20. Advanced registration is recommended. Limited spaces will be available at the door. \nAbout the Exhibition\nA New Subjectivity 1979/2024 looks back at the momentous exhibition Nouvelle Subjectivité (A New Subjectivity) organized by the essayist and art historian Jean Clair in Brussels at the Palais des Beaux Arts in 1979. The exhibition at the Parrish pays tribute to the original exhibition by presenting a selection of works from several of the artists included in the original exhibition—Robert Guinan\, David Hockney\, Raymond Mason\, Philippe Roman\, and Sam Szafran as well as R.B. Kitaj from the Parrish’s collection—and works by artists whose work has continued the figurative traditions celebrated in Nouvelle Subjectivité\, some also drawn from the collection of the Parrish\, such as Rackstraw Downes\, Jane Freilicher\, and Howard Kanovitz\, and artists working today not in the collection\, such as Martí Cormand\, Jordan Casteel\, Peter Doig\, Jenna Gribbon\, and Arcmanoro Niles.

SUMMARY:Member Preview | Charlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color & Ralph Gibson—Nature : Object
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n11 AM | Reception\n12 PM | Talk with artist Ralph Gibson \nMuseum Members are invited to an exhibition preview and reception celebrating the opening of Charlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color and Ralph Gibson—Nature : Object. At 12 PM\, join artist Ralph Gibson for a talk. \nRalph Gibson. Photo: Bob Tursack\, 2022. \nAdvanced registration is required. Not a Parrish member? Join today → \n  \nAbout the Exhibitions\nCharlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color is a survey comprising more than 70 paintings and works on paper\, drawn exclusively from the 2017 gift of works to the Parrish by the James and Charlotte Brooks Foundation. \nRalph Gibson—Nature : Object will feature a selection of photographs by Ralph Gibson from a series based on the relationship between shapes found in nature and human constructs; positing that nature is visually evident in all genres of industrial design\, and architecture is evoked in the correlation between form and ergonomic function. In this exhibition\, Gibson highlights the relationship between perspective\, color\, and proportion. The 35mm Leica format and optical glass are an essential component of the work\, and the dimensions of the frame are based on the ancient Greek “Golden Means.” \n  \nExhibition Support\nCharlotte Park: The Life of Forms in Color is made possible thanks to the generous support of the James and Charlotte Brooks Fund. \nRalph Gibson—Nature : Object is made possible\, in part\, thanks to the generous support of Leica Camera USA and Neda Young and Family. \n \nThe Parrish Art Museum’s programs are made possible\, in part\, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and by the property taxpayers from the Southampton School District and the Tuckahoe Common School District.

SUMMARY:Studio Visit | Jennifer de Klaver
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nWe invite our Patron-level members and above to a private\, behind-the-scenes studio visit with artist Jennifer de Klaver in Southampton. This exclusive event offers a rare opportunity to explore de Klaver’s creative space and process up close and gain insight into how her work intertwines with nature and storytelling. Engage in an enriching conversation with the artist and fellow art enthusiasts while enjoying wine and light bites. Don’t miss this unique chance to connect with the artist and fellow patrons in an intimate and inspiring setting. \nRegistration is required. Limited space is available. \nThis event is intended for Members of the Parrish Art Museum at the Patron level and above. Please call if you would like to bring guests. \nAbout the Artist\nJennifer de Klaver is a painter based in Southampton\, New York\, whose abstract works merge gestural forms with a profound sense of calm and inevitability. “I am inspired by color\, sound\, and movement\,” she explains. “My art flows from the heart\, guided by intuition.” This intuitive process infuses her paintings with a deep connection to the soul\, evident in the emotive textures\, marks\, and meditative energy that characterize her work. \nde Klaver’s art delves into the most intimate connections to source. Through a hybrid form of abstract expressionism\, she plays with contrast\, color\, connectivity\, and a language tied to light—all inspired by the beauty of nature. \nGrowing up in Belgium\, de Klaver’s appreciation for the arts began early. As the daughter of a painter\, she traveled extensively throughout Europe\, immersing herself in the works of the great masters in Paris\, Rome\, Florence\, Barcelona\, and the Netherlands. For de Klaver\, painting is a form of meditation\, healing\, and inner storytelling—a process vividly expressed through the dynamic movements and calligraphic forms in her work. \nCurrently\, de Klaver paints out of a former commercial garage in Southampton\, New York. Her work has been featured in exhibitions in New York City and Southampton\, Art Market + Design Hamptons\, Hampton Holiday House + Designer Showhouse\, and Sotheby’s. She is currently exhibiting at Art D’Avendano (division of Jeff Lincoln Art + Design) at 200 North See\, Southampton through September 29th. \n
