SUMMARY:Optic Garden | Preview at Exhibition The Barn
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nParrish Contemporaries Circle members are invited to join Frampton Co for open-air cocktails and an exclusive preview of Optic Garden\, presented in collaboration with The Rug Company\, at Exhibition The Barn in Bridgehampton. Optic Garden showcases art and design in equal measure with rugs designed by leading creatives for The Rug Company\, including “Undercover\,” a new bespoke rug designed by Elena Frampton\, Principal at Frampton Co\, alongside contemporary paintings by Christine Keefe\, and ceramics by Kalya O’Donoghue. \nInspired to bring an element of the three-dimensional to a typically two-dimensional object\, Elena Frampton designed “Undercover” using a trompe l’oeil effect. The design marries optical illusion with traditional ornamentation\, as a floral-patterned rug appears to peel back from the floor at opposing corners\, offering both a decorative and architectural statement within interior space. Echoing the inspiration behind “Undercover\,” the exhibition recontextualizes form\, function\, and ornamentation in the display. Rugs cascade down the wall and onto the floor\, putting the artistry and creative vision of the designs in full view. The selection of rugs\, curated by Elena Frampton\, includes creative perspectives across a range of industries with additional designs by Diane von Furstenberg\, Rodarte\, Mary Katrantzou\, Paul Smith\, Sarabande\, and The Rug Company. \nAbout Exhibition\n\nA stone’s throw from the ocean\, Exhibition The Barn is situated in the serene hamlet of Bridgehampton in Long Island\, New York. Recent North American performances include the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra\, the Meadows Symphony Orchestra of SMU Dallas\, and major festivals including PianoTexas\, Morningside Music Bridge in Calgary\, Canada\, the International Keyboard Institute & Festival in New York City\, and the Chautauqua Institution. Wang has also garnered top honors at numerous competitions including the Meadows Concerto Competition at SMU\, the Artist Recognition Scholarship Awards Competition at NYC’s International Keyboard Institute & Festival\, the Hamamatsu International Piano Academy Competition in Japan\, and the IX International Competition for Young Pianists in Memory of Vladimir Horowitz in Ukraine\, among other important venues worldwide. \nPROGRAM\nAprès une lecture du Dante: Fantasia quasi by Sonata Franz Liszt (1811-1886) \n(Dante Sonata) \nTwo Preludes by Aristea Mellos (b.1987) \n“Me cansé de vivir me caso” \n(I’m tired of living so I’m getting married) \n“Go to sleep my beloved\, whilst I sing you a lullaby…” \n(Djoko’s Lullaby) \n  \nSonata No. 23 in F minor\, Op. 57 by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827) \n“Appassionata” \nI. SUMMARY:Members Reception | Kahlo: An Expanded Body
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n12 PM | Conversation with Curator Cristina Kahlo and Museum Executive Director Mónica Ramírez-Montagut\nJoin us for the preview of Kahlo: An Expanded Body—a groundbreaking investigation into celebrated artist Frida Kahlo (Mexican\, 1907–1954) through a series of documents\, photos\, letters\, and clinical files that shed light on her dramatic medical history and its sustained impact on her life and work. The multi-gallery exhibition provides new insight into the importance of the body as enduring source material for Kahlo’s representational and metaphorical depictions of her physical and emotional life. \nThe exhibition features more than 100 archives\, letters\, and photos—several never before seen—made available through exclusive access to private family files by Kahlo’s grandniece\, the Mexican artist Cristina Kahlo. On view are facsimiles of personal letters and postcards between Frida and family\, friends\, lovers\, and doctors; photographs of the artist and her inner circle by Mexican and international photographers including Lola Álvarez Bravo\, Florence Arquin\, Gisele Freund\, Guillermo Kahlo\, Antonio Kahlo\, and Nickolas Muray; and extensive graphic medical records and documents. The exhibition is augmented by original work by Cristina Kahlo\, and María and Tolita Figueroa. \nKahlo: An Expanded Body is co-curated by Cristina Kahlo; organized at the Parrish Art Museum by Mónica Ramírez-Montagut\, Executive Director\, with additional support from Kaitlin Halloran\, Curatorial Assistant and Publications Coordinator. \nEXHIBITION SUPPORT \nKahlo: An Expanded Body is made possible\, in part\, thanks to the generous support of Tony Bechara\, and Alexandra Stanton and Sam Natapoff. \nThe Parrish Art Museum’s programs are made possible\, in part\, by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Kathy Hochul and the New York State Legislature\, and by the property taxpayers from the Southampton School District and the Tuckahoe Common School District. \nNot a member but want to attend? SUMMARY:Members Reception | Mel Kendrick: Seeing Things in Things
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \n6:30 pm | Program with the artist\nJoin us for the preview of Mel Kendrick: Seeing Things in Things. Presenting a wide range of sculpture from the artist’s decades-long career\, Seeing Things in Things explores how Mel Kendrick (American\, b. 1949) exploits the essential properties of his selected medium\, whether wood\, rubber—and more recently concrete—to create sculpture that inherently lays bare the process by which it was made. Curated by Allison N. Kemmerer\, Mead Curator of Photography and Senior Curator of Contemporary Art at the Addison Gallery of American Art\, Andover\, MA. \nThe works by Kendrick\, a Parrish collection artist and longtime resident of the East End of Long Island\, NY\, will be on view in this comprehensive multi-gallery exhibition that celebrates his unique approach to artmaking—one that is fueled by a tireless inquiry into the seemingly limitless possibility of sculpture. A fully illustrated catalogue co-published and distributed by Rizzoli International includes an introductory essay by Nancy Princenthal as well as a series of focused essays by those close to his work. \nMel Kendrick: Seeing Things in Things was organized by the Addison Gallery of American Art\, Phillips Academy\, Andover\, Massachusetts and curated by Allison Kemmerer\, The Mary Stripp and R. Crosby Kemper Director. The presentation at the Parrish Art Museum is organized by Corinne Erni\, Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Senior Curator of ArtsReach and Special Projects\, with additional support from Kaitlin Halloran\, Curatorial Assistant and Publications Coordinator and Brianna L. Hernández\, Curatorial Fellow. \nEXHIBITION SUPPORT \nThe presentation of Mel Kendrick: Seeing Things in Things at the Parrish Art Museum is made possible\, in part\, thanks to the generous support of Dorothy Lichtenstein\, Imperfect Family Foundation; William R.
