Join today →\nSalvadoran artist Simón Vega creates drawings\, objects\, sculptural installations\, and happenings inspired by the self-made informal architecture\, local market stands\, and vendor carts found in the streets and beaches of Central America. With his work\, Vega examines the lasting effects of colonialism and the Cold War in Central America\, and parodies disparities between first and second-world cultures\, economies\, and social experiences. At the Parrish\, Vega will present Gemini Duplex Chanti Capsule\, Tropical Mercury Capsule\, crafted from repurposed roofing sheets\, toys\, and other objects\, and Tropical Spacesuits\, made of recycled Hawaiian shirts\, as well as a photography series documenting his largest sculpture to date\, Palm 3 World Station\, for greater context of his sculptures. The artist will also create a rover with found materials from the Museum’s surrounding area. \nSimón Vega: Tropical Space Castaways is organized by Corinne Erni\, Lewis B. and Dorothy Cullman Chief Curator\, Art and Education and Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs and Martha Stotsky\, Deputy Director of Arts Education\, with additional support from Kaitlin Halloran\, Assistant Curator and Publications Coordinator\, Brianna L. Hernández\, Assistant Curator\, and Casey Kleister Meyer\, Education Programs Manager. \nComprised of 27 paintings and prints\, Across the Avenues: Fairfield Porter in New York focuses on the cityscapes Porter created of Manhattan between the mid-1940s to mid-1970s. Drawn from the Museum’s vast Porter collection—consisting of over 240 works—Across the Avenues will include 23 paintings and four lithographic prints that illuminate the artist’s ability to capture New York City’s bustling energy\, both day and night. Highlighting different moments throughout the day\, Porter’s use of varied hues of blue\, red\, and yellow evoke the early\, hazy morning skies above the skyscrapers and the dark\, moody night atmospheres. \nAcross the Avenues: Fairfield Porter in New York is curated by Kaitlin Halloran\, Assistant Curator and Publications Coordinator. \nSpanning mural-sized representational oil paintings\, expressionistic watercolors and pastel drawings\, and intimate mixed-media abstractions\, Beyond the Horizon: Interpretations of the Landscape from Women in the Permanent Collection will take viewers on a journey through visual styles and thematic experiences of the landscape. Featured women artists from the permanent collection capture the essence and tone of the environment through their own unique visual language. \nBeyond the Horizon: Interpretations of the Landscape from Women in the Permanent Collection is curated by Brianna L. The landmark exhibition honors the East End’s rich artistic legacy and brings greater attention to major artists practicing here today. The tour will include highlights of their permanent collection and an introduction to their special exhibition\, Barkley L. Hendricks: Portraits at the Frick. Barkley L. Hendricks (1945—2017) revolutionized contemporary portraiture with his vivid depictions of Black subjects that emphasize the dignity and individuality of his sitters. Beginning in the late 1960s\, his work drew from the challenged traditions of European art\, and The Frick Collection—with its iconic portraits by Rembrandt\, Bronzino\, Van Dyck\, and others—was one of his favorite museums. \nMore about the Frick Madison: “The Frick has created a sequence of gallery spaces at Frick Madison that reflects the museum’s traditional emphasis on intimate encounters with both art and architecture and allows direct access to objects without the interference of vitrines or stanchions.” – frick.org \nThis special opportunity for Parrish Members to glean new perspectives on old masters takes place when the Frick Madison is closed to the public. Organized in collaboration with the Brooks-Park Arts and Nature Center\, the conversation will include Dr. Klaus Ottmann\, Adjunct Curator of the Collection and guest curator for the exhibition\, Helen Harrison\, the Eugene V. and Clare E. Thaw Director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center and artist Mike Solomon\, moderated by artist Scott Bluedorn. \nJames Brooks: A Painting Is a Real Thing is organized by Klaus Ottmann\, Ph.D.\, Adjunct Curator of the Collection\, with support from Assistant Curator and Publications Coordinator Kaitlin Halloran. \nMembers at the Patron level and above are invited to a private tour of the exhibition prior to the talk. Advanced registration is required. \nJames Brooks: A Painting Is a Real Thing\, is made possible thanks to the generous support of the James and Charlotte Brooks Fund and The Wolf Kahn Foundation. SUMMARY:Optic Garden | Preview at Exhibition The Barn
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER \nParrish Contemporaries Circle members are invited to join Frampton Co for open-air cocktails and an exclusive preview of Optic Garden\, presented in collaboration with The Rug Company\, at Exhibition The Barn in Bridgehampton. Optic Garden showcases art and design in equal measure with rugs designed by leading creatives for The Rug Company\, including “Undercover\,” a new bespoke rug designed by Elena Frampton\, Principal at Frampton Co\, alongside contemporary paintings by Christine Keefe\, and ceramics by Kalya O’Donoghue. \nInspired to bring an element of the three-dimensional to a typically two-dimensional object\, Elena Frampton designed “Undercover” using a trompe l’oeil effect. The design marries optical illusion with traditional ornamentation\, as a floral-patterned rug appears to peel back from the floor at opposing corners\, offering both a decorative and architectural statement within interior space. Echoing the inspiration behind “Undercover\,” the exhibition recontextualizes form\, function\, and ornamentation in the display. Rugs cascade down the wall and onto the floor\, putting the artistry and creative vision of the designs in full view. The selection of rugs\, curated by Elena Frampton\, includes creative perspectives across a range of industries with additional designs by Diane von Furstenberg\, Rodarte\, Mary Katrantzou\, Paul Smith\, Sarabande\, and The Rug Company. \nAbout Exhibition\n\nA stone’s throw from the ocean\, Exhibition The Barn is situated in the serene hamlet of Bridgehampton in Long Island\, New York. Through high-profile curatorial partnerships and immersive exhibitions\, the gallery brings a modern and engaging contribution to the east end’s artistic heritage. \n\nThe event is for active Contemporaries Circle members.
