SUMMARY:What We See\, How We See
DESCRIPTION:What We See\, How We See is a seven-part exhibition that contextualizes work by a variety of artists through the lens of how they see and interpret the world around them. Individual galleries based on specific themes feature paintings\, works on paper\, photographs\, and sculpture\, opening with the diverse image making of artists Richard Prince\, Dorothea Rockburne\, and David Salle\, among others. Circles\, Squares\, and Squiggles explores abstract gestures through works by Jennifer Bartlett\, Willem de Kooning\, and Perle Fine; Portraits by Chuck Close\, Till Freiwald and others reveal their subjects in larger than life paintings; and American Landscapes highlights work from the Parrish’s renowned holdings. Two galleries bring to light bodies of work by single artists\, from the tragic-comic world view of Saul Steinberg (a major gift from the Saul Steinberg Foundation that comprises works on paper\, wallpaper and fabric)\, to the joyful imagery of Tom Slaughter.

SUMMARY:Field of Dreams
DESCRIPTION:On August 20\, 2020\, the Parrish opened Field of Dreams\, our inaugural sculpture exhibition created to extend the galleries outdoors and activate the Museum’s meadows with work that engages and responds to the Parrish’s architecture and landscape. The exhibition series is part of the Museum’s new Art in the Meadow initiative that enlivens the grounds with performances\, projections\, and works of art. \nField of Dreams outdoor sculpture exhibition is open and free to the public daily\, from 11 am–5 pm. Visitors are asked to observe social distancing practices and are required to wear masks on Museum property.

DESCRIPTION:March Topic: Spring Palette: Painting without a Brush \nJoin Eric Dever live from the Parrish Studio for an online workshop. \nDetails below. \nMaterials: Paints (Watercolor\, tempera\, acrylic or oil)\, Paper\, Common household items (sponges\, squeegees\, spray bottles\, small funnel\, palette knife\, butter knife\, aluminum foil or wax paper\, tongue depressors\, popsicle sticks and twigs. \nSOLD OUT \n  \n\nThis month Eric will guide us into the next season. Spring\, a time for many\, marks a new beginning\, possibly an awareness in nature. Explore the coming season with a new approach to painting using household items and recycled materials. Track in brushless painting as spring unfolds\, beginning with a dim yellow or green in March\, to pale pinks that build in intensity through April\, followed in May by the return of the tree canopy. \nThis studio workshop will run as a Zoom video conference. Pre-registration is required. Instructions for online access will be provided after registration. Space is limited. \n

His work is included in many collections including the Museum of Modern Art\, the Metropolitan Museum of Art\, the Philadelphia Museum of Art\, the J. Paul Getty Museum\, and the Museum of Fine Arts\, Houston. Ross has recently written an essay about artist Jay DeFeo for The Jay DeFeo Foundation and is currently working on an updated edition of his anthology Abstract Expressionism: Creators and Critics (Abrams\, 1990). \n\nBETH RUDIN DEWOODY \nBeth Rudin DeWoody\, daughter of the late real estate developer Lewis Rudin and the late Gladyce Begelman\, is a native of New York. She studied at the University of California at Santa Barbara where she majored in anthropology and film studies and completed her studies at the New School for Social Research in New York City where she received her B.A. in Liberal Arts. \nChairman of The Rudin Family Foundations and Executive Vice President of Rudin Management Company\, Ms. DeWoody has curated shows for art galleries in New York City\, New Orleans\, and London. In addition\, an exhibition featuring her collection of California art from the 1940’s to 1980’s was featured at the Parrish Museum titled EST-3 and curated by David Pagel. \nMs. DeWoody’s private art space\, The Bunker Artspace in West Palm Beach\, opened in 2017 and displays works from her collection. \nHer many board affiliations include Vice Chair of the Whitney Museum of American Art\, The New School\, Empowers Africa\, and Save A Child India\, Inc. Ms. DeWoody also serves on the Advisory Board at The Glass House in New Canaan\, and the Board of Advisors at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles and is an Honorary Trustee at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). She is a Trustee Emeritus for The New York City Police Foundation and serves on the Advisory Board for New Yorkers for Children\, Inc. \nMs. DeWoody also serves on the Parsons Board of Governors of the New School and is a Member of the Committee for the University Art Collection and is active on the Photography Steering Committee at the Norton Museum in West Palm Beach\, Florida. Her professional affiliations include charter member of New York Women Executives in Real Estate. \nAnother of her board posts is Chairman of the Arts and Culture Committee of the Association for a Better New York (ABNY). Ms. DeWoody resides on the Council of Conservators of the New York Public Library\, the National Leadership Council at United States Artists\, and the Library Association of MOMA. \nShe resides between New York City\, Los Angeles and West Palm Beach. \n  \n
