RESCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 3PM

Salon Series offers intimate concerts with a new generation of artists.

Praised as "one of the most outstanding talents coming up today," American pianist Katie Mahan is capturing the attention of audiences throughout the world for her innovative musical personality, poetic interpretations, and graceful, charming stage presence. A Steinway Artist who earned the Classic Superstar 2008 award from the Berliner Salon, Mahan  possesses an unquestioned technical mastery combined with a kaleidoscopic palate of tone colors, and has been recognized as "a daring and innovative performer."

Mahan’s program for Salon Series, entitled, “Debussy, Gershwin, and the Two Faces of Beethoven,” begins with two works by Debussy: Estampes (1903), whose three movements evoke East Asian, Spanish, and French folk song idioms, and L’isle Joyeuse (1904), inspired by the Jean-Antoine Watteau painting L’Embarquement de Cythère.  The program continues with two of the most technically challenging sonatas composed by Ludwig van Beethoven: Sonata No. 21 in C major, "Waldstein" Op. 53 (1803-04), and Sonata No. 23 in F minor, “Appassionata" Op. 57 (1804-06). She concludes the program with her own arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (1924).

Concerts last from one hour to 90 minutes.
