The Parrish Art Museum presented its first annual Summer Family Party on Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 2pm to 5pm at the Museum. Click here to see photos from the event!

"The goal of the Summer Family Party is to give families the opportunity to explore the Museum, create art together with master artists, learn new skills in a fun, casual way, and get to know all that the Parrish Art Museum has to offer the community year round," said Parrish Director Terie Sultan.

East Hampton-based artist Billy Sullivan led a drawing activity for families and upcoming special exhibition artists Steven and William Ladd guided participants in their original scroll-making process called a Scrollathon. Guests were greeted and entertained throughout the afternoon by Escola de Samba BOOM and had the opportunity to create a Filliping Fun! Flilp Book, participate in hula-hoop and poi lessons led by Samantha Ruddock and Susan Blacklocke, and learn hip-hop dance moves from instructors from Broadway Dance Center. Léman Manhattan Preparatory School worked with children to design their own tote bags, and a special gallery activity took place throughout the Special Exhibition and Permanent Collection galleries. Food and beverages were provided by the Golden Pear Café and Scotto's Pizza.

Participating artists Billy Sullivan and Steven and William Ladd were chosen because of their deep connections with the Museum, the community, and commitment to working with children. Sullivan is an East Hampton-based artist whose work is represented in the Museum's permanent collection. The Ladd brothers' work will be presented in the exhibition Steven and William Ladd: Mary Queen of the Universe, opening November 2, 2014. During the exhibition, the Ladd brothers will be part of a new artist-in-residence program, working with more than 1,000 local grade school children in a Scrollathon—a month-long project designed to encourage participants to think creatively about collaboration and connections.
