Mixed Media: Truth to Materials

Painter Eric Dever guides participants in exploring the properties of spackle, tar, wood, cotton belting, and other materials used by Parrish collection artists including Donald Sultan and Louise Nevelson. Materials will be provided.

Explore still life and landscape painting with inspiration from works in the Parrish collection. Develop unique ways to incorporate interior and exterior views with guidance from painter Barbara Thomas. Materials will be provided.

The Art of Poetry with Jennifer Senft

Friday, May 19, 10:30 am - 1 pm

Write poems inspired by the Museum collection, building, and landscape. With prompts from instructor Jennifer Senft explore haiku, free verse, and villanelle. Share poems with the group and enjoy congenial feedback and discussion.

Life Drawing with Linda Capello

Mondays, 11 am-1 pm 

Series 2: May 8, 15, 22, June 5, 12

Develop your drawing skills in five open studio sessions by drawing male and female models through gesture sketches and longer duration observation, under the guidance of teaching artist Linda Capello. All skill levels welcome. For adults (age 15+). Participants are asked to provide the following dry media supplies: 18x24 newsprint, soft vine charcoal, conte, woodless graphite pencil (#6 or higher), kneaded eraser, and a drawing board.

The Art of Fiction

Jennifer Senft holds an MFA in Writing and Literature from Stony Brook Southampton, an MA in Psychology from NYU, and a BFA in Cinema Studies from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. She teaches in the English and Humanities departments of Suffolk County Community College, works as a private writing instructor and editor, and leads local classes on writing and literature. Her work has appeared numerous publications, and her short story “Prison Visit” was nominated for a 2014 Pushcart Prize.

A cancellation up to 7 days prior to the first day of adult workshops will guarantee a 100% refund. No refunds will be given after that time. The Parrish is not responsible for providing refunds for classes missed as a result of student illness, student emergencies or events beyond our control.
